Jacquian Williams Interview 5.9.2011

This interview with Jacquian Williams was conducted on May 9th, 2011 and was facilitated by ETL Associates.

Giants 101: “Did you have any prior knowledge that the Giants were interested in drafting you?”

Jacquian Williams: “Yeah, I took a visit with the Giants. I had a talk with the GM and he told me he’d love to have me and that they were very interested in me.”

Giants 101: “How were you contacted on draft day? Was it Tom Coughlin, Jerry Reese or someone else from within the Giants organization?”

Jacquian Williams: “I don’t really know who was the first one to call because I was just so excited. I didn’t even hear any names; all I hear was ‘Giants.’ I know the defensive coordinator called me after and told me to just stay ready. He said we don’t know what’s going to happen with the NFL Lockout, but just stay ready.”

Giants 101: “Speaking of the lockout, how bittersweet is it? To be drafted, it’s got to be a thrill, but to be immediately thrust into an NFL Lockout…is that discouraging at all?

Jacquian Williams: “I look at it like it’s just another reason for me to work hard. I don’t like to think about it and I don’t want to let it affect what I do or anything; I just want to continue to work. I look at it like it’s just another chain link in my life.”

Giants 101: “Other than the initial draft call, have you had the opportunity to talk to Coach Coughlin, defensive coordinator Perry Fewell or any other coaches?”

Jacquian Williams: “I haven’t contacted and no one has contacted me, but workout with a lot of NFL guys and that’s where I am getting most of my advice from.”

Giants 101: “Other than the obvious answer of ‘wanting to help the team win a championship,’ what are your goals with the Giants? It’s probably safe to assume that you have higher aspirations than just contributing on special teams.”

Jacquian Williams: “I see myself as one of their starters. I know there are a lot of things that have to happen and things I have to do in order for that to happen, but I know I’m going to be someone that works hard and who wants it.”

Giants 101: “What do you feel you bring to the team that the Giants don’t currently have?”

Jacquian Williams: “Speed. I definitely bring speed. My side speed is one of the things that define me…and my drive. That’s something I think will help them out.”

Giants 101: “As it stands, when you look up and down the Giants roster, what name do you see that stands out to you as a guy you can, not only look up to, but have the most to gain from?

Jacquian Williams: “Jason Pierre-Paul, that’s my guy. We have a long history. But I definitely like Justin Tuck; I like the way he plays the game and his athleticism. He’s someone I look forward to playing alongside.”

Giants 101: “Historically, the Giants have had some of the greatest linebackers in NFL History. Do you believe you’ll feel any extra pressure when you do ultimately suit up and get out on the same field Lawrence Taylor once called home?”

Jacquian Williams: "When I put on that helmet… Just to be on the same team Lawrence Taylor once was, who is one of the best linebackers ever, I know there are some very big shoes to fill.”

Giants 101: “The more Giants fans learn about you, the more excited they are to see you play. Do you have any message for those fans?”

Jacquian Williams: "I'm definitely excited by the fans support. I don't want to let them down and I'm going to do whatever it takes to help the team."
