Brian Witherspoon Interview 10.31.2011

This interview was conducted with Brian Witherspoon on October 31st, 2011 and was facilitated by ETL Associates.

Giants 101: “How are you, Brian?”

Brian Witherspoon: “Good. Good, man.”

Giants 101: “How’s your rehab going?”

Brian Witherspoon: “It’s going well, man. I’m a little ahead of schedule, so that’s always good to hear and good to know.”

Giants 101: “You remember we interviewed once before back in the spring, and you talked about wanting to do big things for the Giants?”

Brian Witherspoon: “I do.”

Giants 101: “In preseason, it looked like you were ready to step up and take on at least the nickel corner position; how do you feel things are shaping up next year for you?”

Brian Witherspoon: “Well, I’m going to come in with the same attitude I did this year. I’m going to come in, practice hard, do my job, be a student of the game; you know, just continue to do what I was doing. Pick up right where I left off.”

Giants 101: “Who are some of your better friends on the team that you usually talk to about scheme, playbook and what not?”

Brian Witherspoon: “Honestly, it was the whole secondary you know? I was cool with all those guys. It was like we were one big family. It wasn’t necessarily one person I would go to. I could ask anyone, any linebackers or [defensive] linemen. Any of them. That’s one of the things I loved about the team; it was like one big family. I could talk to everybody; everybody had the same type of attitude – a winning attitude.”

Giants 101: “You think that type of camaraderie, that closeness, is going to help the Giants this year down the stretch?”

Brian Witherspoon: “Definitely. Thing is, everybody, every guy out there knows that they can look to the next guy. They can count on the next guy. Everybody is going to play hard for one another. I’m telling you man, this team, I think is a very special team and a lot of people are going to see that the second part of the season.”

Giants 101: “You’ve heard of the ‘One Team for the Lights’ Initiative?”

Brian Witherspoon: “Yeah, I thought that was a very good idea to raise money and keep that going. That’s something that the city should always carry on.”

Giants 101: “You think people will take to the effort and that we will be able to collect donations?”

Brian Witherspoon: “Definitely. Certainly. 9/11 touched everybody. The way I see it, if donations aren’t given to that, I would be disappointed. I’m pretty sure that everybody is going to say the same thing about that and give to that type of charity.”

Giants 101: “What are you most looking forward to Sunday and how do you feel about ETL and how they have treated you? “

Brian Witherspoon: “ETL…that was the best decisions that I have made in my young life. Eugene, Drew, Rob [and] those guys do everything they can to help me and help themselves. We are like a family. We can call one another anytime and talk to each other about anything. I encourage anybody coming out in the draft next year to consider ETL. It was a great choice I made. Eugene had his special on ESPN, The Dotted Line – I think that will give a lot of athletes [a chance] to see how hard ETL is going to work for you.

As far as the event for Sunday, A Giant Sunday, I wanted to do something for the fans, interact with them since I can’t play this year (IR). I just want to get out there and give back to the fans and give them the opportunity to come get to know me, see what I do outside of football. See the type of person I am.”
