Frank E. Kurczewski

Fan and Giants 101 reader
September 2006 – February 2008

An upstate New York Giants fan of long standing who after years of disgruntlement and dissatisfaction with the Mara's and the franchise, and after finding that complaining about the Giants did not bring back his wife (about whom he was equally dissatisfied prior to her hitting the road), discovered the internet and first MVN followed by Giants 101. He soon realized that he finally had an audience that sat beyond his glass of the day’s liquor, awaiting his frequent screeds against the cheapness of the franchise owners, the coaches, the players, and sometimes the weather.

Frank persisted through thick, thin and Super Bowl Championships in his unhappiness with the team’s inability to reach perfection. He was heroically unwilling to concede that the Giants could be viewed as a successful franchise after winning three Super Bowls and a few prior pre-Super Bowl championships. He generally appeared happiest when the state of the team matched his unalterable pessimism, allowing him to let loose his worst furies, soon spiraling into vast conspiracy theories and convictions of a bleak future.

He retired right after the 2007 Championship year, almost certainly ruined by the shock of such unexpected success, and retreated to his upstate command post unwilling to ever post again thanks to a level of cognitive dissonance that is historic in its dimensions.

In his unalterable pessimism and conviction that in all success lies buried the seeds of disaster Frank represents one important part of the lineage of the true New York Giants fan. He wasn’t always articulate. he wasn’t always right. He wasn’t always sober. But the years of consistency make him richly deserving of this honor.
