As if the New York Giants didn't have enough injury issues entering the final week of the season, wide receiver Rueben Randle missed practice on Thursday after experiencing swelling in his knee.

"I don't want to miss this game," Randle said after practice.

With Randle now sidelined, and Victor Cruz out for the season with a knee injury of his own, the Giants could go into Week 17's game against the Washington Redskins with only four wide receivers: Hakeem Nicks, Louis Murphy Jr., Jerrel Jernigan and the recently added Julian Talley.

Meanwhile, losing Randle would also force the Giants to make a change at the punt returner position. In preparation, the team had the aforementioned Hakeem Nicks, Antrel Rolle, Jerrel Jernigan and Charles James fielding punts in practice on Thursday — James, of course, having some of the most recent experience.

Throughout the preseason, James was the team's primary punt returner, returning seven for 70 yards — two of 20+ yards. However, he also led the league with five fair catches.

Meanwhile, Rolle hasn't fielded a punt since the 2011 season, while neither Nicks or Jernigan have a single career return.

In addition to Randle, defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul (shoulder), offensive lineman Brandon Mosley (hand), cornerbacks Trumaine McBride (hamstring) and Jayron Hosley (illness), wide receiver Victor Cruz (knee) and tight end Adrien Robinson (knee) missed practice.

Running backs Andre Brown (concussion) and Peyton Hillis (concussion), as well as offensive lineman David Diehl (knee) did participate.

This is getting to the “pie in the face” stage.

Meanwhile, the Eagles might be healthiest team in NFL history, according to one ESPN beat writer. Apparently, they’ve gone the whole season without a single 53-man roster transactions.

So no, Krow, we passed “pie in the face” territory a long time ago. We’re in the middle of “kick to the nads, poke in the eye and slip on a banana peel” country.

Just for the record, Nicks is healthy while Cruz and Randle are not.

OK, back to your regularly scheduled programming, the Kick the Dog who Landed You a Lombardi Show.

LOL…your defense of Nicks involves him being “healthy?”

Nah son. But dude *will* play more games than Victor Cruz this year, yet he will be bashed for being injury prone.

Besides, I think Cruz is the potential future HOFer of the two.

I suppose we should be thankful no one was killed. It’s been that kind of season.

I’m not sure that we could have kept Manningham (because he wanted a chance to prove he could be a #1 or #2 receiver) but we could get him this off-season at a reasonable price and DEFINITELY should.

I’m not fully sold on Randle, Nicks is a mystery wrapped in an enigma, and Cruz is a bit small and therefore fragile. This team needs four solid WRs. Mario would do well with Eli, as he did before.

It’s clear we need either a tall wr or big body TE. Myers is not the answer

This is like the Flu it’s spreading and no one has taken their shots. It’s too bad Gilbride didn’t catch it.

  8. Krow says:

Odds are high that Haslett gets the boot after the season. I’m sure we’ll stick with old “Bend and Break”, but what a perfect DC that guy would make. Sad to watch talent like that pass us by … over and over.
