The second tenure for Brandon Jacobs with the New York Giants officially came to an end on Tuesday night, as the 31-year-old running back was placed on season-ending injured reserve with a nagging knee injury.
Jacobs was brought back to the team before their Week 2 game against the Denver Broncos after both David Wilson and Da'Rel Scott were ineffective and with Andre Brown on temporary injured reserve until Week 10, the Giants needed someone who not only knew the offense and the playbook, but someone who could also be a leader to the younger players on the team.
Jacobs got off to a slow start with the Giants, mostly because he was sharing carries with Wilson, but Wilson went down in Week 5 with a neck injury against the Philadelphia Eagles, so the Giants had no other choice but to make Jacobs the starting running back in Week 6 against the Chicago Bears. At Soilder Field, Jacobs looked like the running back we all saw in 2007-2009, carrying the ball 22 times for 106 yards and scored two touchdowns in a 27-21 loss, but that's where the injuries started.
Jacobs would miss the next month with a hamstring injury and didn't return until November 17 against the Green Bay Packers; a game he only had nine yards on five carries, but he did score a touchdown in his return to the team in a 27-13 victory.
His final game was against the Dallas Cowboys two weeks ago, carrying the ball nine times for 75 yards in a 24-21 loss for the Giants, but after the game….
