New York Giants cornerback Jayron Hosley has been chomping at the bit to get back onto the field with some regularity after missing much of the season with a lingering hamstring injury, and his wish will become a reality on Sunday against the Washington Redskins with both Trumaine McBride (groin) and Corey Webster (ankle) out.
Hosley saw his first action in six weeks last Sunday during a 24-21 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, but was limited at best. Head coach Tom Coughlin said it was largely due to concern over his endurance, which is to be expected after riding the pine for so long.
"He’s practiced some," Coughlin said earlier this week. "He’s had some issues, as you know, and trying to extend him to the point where he feels like there’s enough endurance there that he doesn’t have an issue; that’s where we are."
But Hosley has maintained that he's ready to go when called upon; healthy enough to step up and do whatever the team asks of him.
"Whenever I get my chance I'm going to be ready. That's part of the game," Hosley said on Wednesday. "Being ready when a man goes down. Next guy has to step up."
Sunday will mark Hosley's first start of 2013, but certainly not the first of his career. The youngster played in 12 games during his rookie season, starting six of them, registering 40 tackles, one interception and defending five passes.
