Jason Pierre-Paul, Brandon Jacobs & Trumaine McBride Miss Second Straight Practice for Giants

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin was hoping to have all of his players return to practice on Thursday, but Big Blue was again without running back Brandon Jacobs (knee), defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul (shoulder) and cornerback Trumaine McBride (groin).

Considering the Giants have only one remaining practice this week, it's not a good sign for those who sat on the sideline — especially JPP, whom Coughlin said is unlikely to return to full strength this season.

"Injuries are unfortunately a part of our game, but we have to go forward with the guys we have," Coughlin said on Wednesday.

If JPP is unable to go on Sunday, he'll likely be replaced with a rotation of Mathias Kiwanuka and Cullen Jenkins, who will slide out from defensive tackle. Of course, the Giants will "try" to get Damontre Moore some additional defensive snaps, but they've been saying that for several weeks to no avail.

Meanwhile, if Jacobs sits out, Peyton Hillis will see his first action since he ran for 21 yards on five carries against the Oakland Raiders in Week 10. And you'd expect to see a healthy Corey Webster (ankle) start in the place of McBride if he's listed as inactive, but Coughlin was non-committal when asked about that on Wednesday.

"We’ll see how that goes. We’re going to look at a bunch of guys," he said.

The good news for the Giants is that Webster and Hakeem Nicks (abdominal) participated for the second straight day, while Terrell Thomas (knee) returned to practice.

So they’re 4-7 and all but out of the playoffs, JPP’s hurt, and they’re still thinking about maybe playing Moore? That says enough about the this coaching staff, and certainly testifies to their focus on staying on as coaches as being a priority. There is a good deal of talent on this roster that has been held out of regular season games because they were perceived to be a liability to winning. Ok. I won’t argue that. What I will assert is winning the next 5 games in 2013 isn’t the most important priority for the New York Giants. Ahead of winning these last essentially meaningless games is the need for game time reps for Moore, Taylor, Kuhn, James, Herzlich, Hankins, Hosley, Cox, Murphy, Jernigan, Donnell, Robinson, and Nassib. Compile the tape, spool up the position coaches, design a limited game plan, and get those guys out there to become better players in 2014. After a couple snaps sit Diehl, Nicks, TT, Brown, JPP, Jacobs, Joseph, Jenkins, Tuck, Beason, Webster, and Eli. They don’t need more snaps, and playing them takes much needed regular season reps away from those who really will benefit from them. I’ll know if these coaches care more about this team than they do their own careers if they do the right thing and invest reps in the rest of this roster.
