The New York Giants find themselves in an unusual spot as a huge NFC East game looms against the Dallas Cowboys. Usually on the negative end of the injury report, the Giants enter Sunday's game relatively healthy, while the Cowboys will be without three of their linebackers, including two starters — Sean Lee, Justin Durant and rookie DeVonte Holloman.
Holloman was expected to start in place of Durant, who, like Lee, is out due to a hamstring injury, but he has not yet fully healed from a spinal contusion that's kept him out for the last four games. Instead, the Cowboys will likely start Bruce Carter at strong-side linebacker, with Ernie Sims taking over for Lee in the middle and in nickel packages. They will also use Kyle Bosworth, who was with the Giants throughout training camp, frequently.
"We certainly have been very patient with his injury," Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said of Holloman. "We certainly would never put him out there if he wasn’t capable and ready to play. Our medial staff does a great job with that in his case, and in any of our players’ cases."
But not all news was bad for the Cowboys, as defensive end DeMarcus Ware (quad) is listed as probable for Sunday's game and says he's feeling much better.
“I feel way better than I did against New Orleans,” Ware, who was limited in practice all week, said. “I felt good, but functionality wise it wasn’t all the way like I needed it to be. Now I really feel great. I feel really good and I’m just going out there and playing.”
In addition to Ware, the Cowboys have also listed cornerback Morris Claiborne (hamstring) and defensive tackle Jason Hatcher (neck) as probable.
