Giants Officially Place Andre Brown on Short-Term IR; Sign Adewale Ojomo from Practice Squad

After much speculation, back-and-forth and debate, the New York Giants officially placed running back Andre Brown on short-term Injured Reserve (IR) with designation to return on Wednesday. And to fill his spot on the 53-man roster, the team also signed defensive end Adewale Ojomo from their practice squad.

Ojomo's place on the PS was filled by offensive lineman Steven Baker, whose agent announce his signing with the team on Tuesday.

Initial reports came out early Tuesday morning that Brown would be placed on short-term IR, but the team never announced the move. Speculation then began to circulate that Big Blue wouldn't make that designation until following their week one game against the Dallas Cowboys in the event someone else suffered an short-term injury. And with the team having a bye week during week nine, it seemed to make sense.

However, with questions surrounding defensive ends Jason Pierre-Paul (back) and Damontre Moore (shoulder), the Giants were in need of some back-up support along the line. Cue Adewale Ojomo, who shined during the preseason for the second year in a row.

With the short-term IR designation, Brown cannot begin practicing until after week six and cannot play again until after week eight — which means the earliest he'll see the field again is week 10 against the Oakland Raiders (the team has a bye week during week nine).

If Victor Cruz can play Sunday (I’m guessing he will) and Hakeem Nicks is anywhere close to 100% (I’m guessing he isn’t) we have a very good shot at winning. The Cowboys are coming in with a defensive front that is weakened by injury and a lack of talent in the middle. In a 4-3 defense that will hurt them. Our blocking scheme can focus on Ware (who we should all recall has NOT had great games against the Giants over the past few seasons, even when he was playing opposite David Diehl). If Eli is protected he ought to have a number of shots down the field thanks to the Cowboys’ weakness at safety. It will also help that Claiborne is coming off an injury that cost him the entire preseason and he should not be in much better shape than is Nicks.

Now, Eli hasn’t looked very sharp on his deep balls in preseason. But with this week of practice I’m betting he will be better. He also hasn’t looked to the tight ends much, but I suspect Myers may see a lot of balls given the weak safeties for Dallas.

Our offense should do well if Eli is even 85% of what he’ll be once the timing is right with the receivers (probably a few more weeks into the season). Our special teams have looked excellent. If our defense can do anything (especially keep Bryant in front of them and limit Murray’s production) we have a good chance to continue our unbeaten streak in JerryWorld.

I really got the feeling from the preseason that Nicks wasn’t trying. Doing his absolute best to make sure he’s healthy for the regular season. The only question is whether or not he continues to play carefully (ie not to his full potential).

I am excited for the Cowboys game…but I am nervous. I honestly don’t know if we escape Big D with a W. Their offense is going to be TOUGH. We need our DL to step up and pressure Romo into making mistakes – and THAT is the key to getting a win. I get what T2 was saying, but at the same time…you take the season one game at a time…especially when you are playing a division rival.

I am still on the Dwyer bandwagon. He is a bigger back and provides that thump to Wilson’s speed, and in my eyes, would be a great compliment to Wilson until Brown can return. I am also not sure who is still available at safety…but at this point, I wouldn’t mind them bringing in Kerry Rhodes for a work out, just to see if he’s still got it. Another name I would LOVE to see them bring in RIGHT NOW is John Conner. The guy is a MONSTER FB – cut the Bear and roll with this guy in week 1. He demolishes guys!

Well, Ojomo has made the Roster, And Adrian Tracy hasn’t even been looked at for a job in the AFL.

After discovering this website last preseason I finally decided to sign up. Great articles and even better intelligent discussion has kept me coming back every day so I figured I’d finally join in.

Sorry but we dont need another back wilson is more than capable of handling 25 carries a game look at CJ2k and spiller and jammal charles all will carry the ball more than 30 touches a game hes very small and i doubt many defenders will get a good hit on the kid. Dwyer is a plodder and so is Torian. Wilson will be fine and give us exactly what we need a RB defenses have to plab against. Those third down draws gilbride loves to call might actually work now!!!
