In 2012, safety Stevie Brown burst onto the scene, leading the New York Giants with eight interceptions and was nearly voted to the Pro Bowl. He was rewarded for his career-best performance by being named the starting safety alongside Antrel Rolle. And on Saturday night, in a 24-21 loss to the New York Jets, he did what he does best: haul in interceptions. Only this time, once he was down, he did not get back up.
Brown suffered what the Giants initially called a "knee sprain," but it was relatively clear that the injury was far more serious than your everyday kind of sprain. And after the contest, head coach Tom Coughlin sounded less than optimistic about Brown's status.
"I feel bad for Stevie Brown. He’s been a tremendous addition to our team," Coughlin said. "The guy has another interception and then has that happen. I don’t really understand how it happened. I couldn’t see it, but evidently he just got his foot planted the wrong way. I don’t think it was a contact injury."
But Brown wasn't the only one who suffered what could, potentially, be a serious injury on Saturday night. Second-year cornerback Jayron Hosley also went down with a sprained left ankle and would not return to the game.
Both players were initially sent for x-rays and will each head to the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York on Sunday to receive MRI's.
