New York Giants, New York Jets & MetLife Kick Off “The Road to MetLife Stadium”

New York Giants General Manager Jerry Reese said earlier this year that he'd like to put a "Countdown to Super Bowl XLVIII" clock in the locker-room to remind players and coaches how many days are left until Super Bowl Sunday. Not just because that's the ultimate goal of the team, but because it will be played on their turf at MetLife Stadium.

As such, it seems only appropriate that the Giants, New York Jets and MetLife have recently kicked off "The Road to MetLife Stadium" in preparation for the big game.

In an effort to celebrate this "super" year, Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks and former Jets quarterback Chad Pennington will be on hand at MetLife Plaza this coming Monday, August 19th, serving fans some free cool treats from Rita's Italian Ice. Fans will also have an opportunity to interact with famous PEANUTS® characters, the Jets Flight Crew and take photos with the Snoopy Trophy, which is awarded each year to the victor of the Giants/Jets preseason game, also known as the MetLife Bowl Champion.

Additionally, as they do annually, MetLife will make charitable donations to two separate charities — one chosen by the Jets and one chosen by the Giants. This season, Big Blue will be playing for neighborhood playground builder charity, KaBOOM!, while Gang Green will be playing for Trust for Public Land. In total, MetLife will be contributing $50,000 to these two charities.

However, there's a "super" twist on it this year. In addition to $50,000, MetLife will donate another $25 to each team's charity, up to $12,500 per team, for each tweet that includes the hashtag #Road2MetLifeStadium. In other words, get tweeting!

Monday's event will run from 1:00 PM EST until 3:00 PM EST at MetLife Plaza, 1095 Avenue of the Americas – between 41st street and 42nd street. The Giants and Jets will then play in the MetLife Bowl on Saturday, August 24 at 7:00 PM EST.

In the spirit of full-disclosure, I’ve partnered with MetLife as part of the Road to MetLife Stadium Preferred Blogger Program. Throughout the year I’ll be receiving special access to MetLife Stadium events and be conducting reader giveaways, with prizes provided by MetLife. However, no payment was given or expected for posting about the program, and as always, all opinions given here are fully my own.

Take this for what it’s worth. Just thought I’d share…

Well, so it’s all but guaranteed the Giants won’t be releasing T2.

Hahah – yeah…Incarcerated Bob isn’t always too reliable…I just thought it was interesting that he’d post that this early into the preseason.

It must be “toss as much ish up against the wall as we can now. What’s wrong, we’ll delete” time.

        • Dirt says:

Should I know who Incarcerated Bob is?

          • BillyS says:

He’s basically the worst person out there when it comes to “breaking news”. He literally has rumor after rumor after rumor of tons of players. He will contradict himself just about every time. I bet that if T2 makes the team he’ll make a tweet saying how he knew T2 would make the team and it was an easy choice. He literally throws out rumors — and they aren’t even ones that sound plausible in the least.

  2. Krow says:

I really want TT on this team. Cut a linebacker … any one of them.

    • Kevros says:

If his knee is fixed, he will be…

    • kujo says:

Been a fan of his since he was at USC. Go back to the pre draft stuff in 2008 and you’ll see me pounding the table for him. Breaks my heart to see what he’s gone through, and I want him to succeed in blue!

      • BillyS says:

I want him to succeed because he’s trying so hard to continue playing. Normally a guy tears up his knee once and he questions coming back. 2 is almost always a death sentence. But 3…I want T2 to succeed and showcase his perseverance. He’s given so much and has been screwed over by injuries several times, but he still wants to play. I really hope he succeeds.
