Although these details seem somewhat irrelevant now — especially considering he's signed with the Baltimore Ravens — former New York Giants defensive tackle Chris Canty has recently admitted that his desire was to sign with the Carolina Panthers after being released by Big Blue. Ultimately, however, the Panthers were unable to afford Canty.

“They needed a lot of players. I think the direction they wanted to go was to get as many quality players as they could at a bargain price,” Canty told the Charlotte Observer. “Quite frankly, I wasn’t going to be able to come in and play for what they would have liked, what they could have afforded."

Money was an issue with the Giants as well, and that's why Canty was released after refusing to accept a restructure/pay cut. In the end, the Ravens were able to pay him what he desired and it's likely that's where he'll finish out his career.

As far as the Panthers, they ended up walking away with several Giants anyway. In addition to wide receiver Domenik Hixon, linebacker Chase Blackburn and linebackers coach Al Holcomb, Carolina also hired General Manager Dave Gettleman, who had been New York's Senior Pro Personnel Analyst.

“He understood that [money was an issue] and I understood and we had to move forward. I wish him nothing but the best. He’s going to build a winner down here, no question about it,” Canty said.

For the Ravens, they should be glad money was an issue. So far this offseason, Canty has been called "dominant" by a number of players, coaches and pundits.
