'Eli Manning' photo (c) 2012, Mike Morbeck - license: You can likely file this under the "he has to say that" category, but brand new Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle Chris Canty said on Friday that Joe Flacco is a better quarterback than New York Giants signal caller and two-time Super Bowl champion, Eli Manning.

“He won a Super Bowl and he’s one of the best deep-ball passers in the NFL,” Canty told Pro Football Talk. “Take a look at the tape.”

There's no denying Flacco has a big arm, but prior to his Super Bowl run a season ago, many had begun to wonder aloud if his time in Baltimore was up. Fans and experts alike began to openly criticize Flacco, with some going as far as to suggest he was vastly overrated. Of course, that's a story we've all heard/seen before, as the pundits did the same thing with Eli prior to Super Bowl XLII and even continue to do to this day.

And while Canty did credit Manning with being “good in clutch situations when you’ve got to have that fourth-quarter drive,” he maintains that he'd prefer Flacco if the game were on the line.

“He throws a beautiful deep ball, he throws it only where the receivers can get their hands on it,” Canty said. “You’re talking about in the vertical passing game and they’ve got some vertical pass threats. They got Torry Smith. They’ve got [Dennis] Pitta. They’ve got [Ed] Dickson. They’ve got some good weapons for him to use down the field.”

Ho-hum. This is May in the NFL.

    In other news, Canty also believes he is still a starting quality defensive tackle.

    “Haloti who?”

  2.  BBWC says:

    I assume Canty is preparing for life after football as a comedian!

  3.  Krow says:

    This is good. Now I’m not sad this clown is gone.

  4.  Valid says:

    “He won a Super Bowl and he’s one of the best deep-ball passers in the NFL,” Canty told Pro Football Talk.

    Guess Canty must have missed the memo that Eli has won TWO Super Bowls…and Canty was there for one of them.

    I echo Krow’s sentiments. Dude is a clown.

    Some things shouldn’t even be dignified with an article.

  6.  GeezUp says:

    So he’s taking the guy who’s won the most recent Superbowl over the guy who got him his ring. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

  7.  Samardzija says:

    As long as hes not here stealing his wage I couldnt care less about his opinions..

    Sometimes players just need to keep their mouth shut. And by sometimes I mean all the time. I understand that he wants to get off to a good start with his teammates and fan base, but only the biggest homer would take what he’s saying as fact. Eli has been miles better than Flacco his whole career. I’ve always thought Flacco was a good QB, but not a “great” QB. He had a nice post season, but that doesn’t mean he’ll get any better or even be able to replicate the #’s over the course of a season.

    - Never thrown for 4,000 yards
    - Never surpassed 25 TD passes
    - Never averaged over 240 yards per game
    - 1 Super Bowl ring

    - Thrown for 4,000 yards 3 times (50 yards away from doing it a 4th)
    - Thrown 25+ TD passes 4 times
    - Averaged over 240 yards per game 4 times (including over 300 per game in 2011)
    - 2 Super Bowl rings
    - Flacco’s MOST passing yards (3,817) this season was just a tad more than Eli’s (3,762) of his SECOND year in the league.

    Here’s some fun little numbers…

    Flacco = 3,817 yards, 22 TD, 10 INT, 87.7 QB rating, 4 4th quarter comebacks/winning drives
    Eli = 3,948 yards, 26 TD, 15 INT, 86,2 QB rating, 3 4th quarter comebacks/winning drives

    …and then Flacco briefly became the highest paid player in the game. Is he REALLY worth that?

    I just don’t see why some view Flacco as some kind of amazing player. Eli has had better stats than Flacco in just about every category. Flacco can be called “elite” and get an insane contract, yet Eli is still considered the “wrong” Manning for Coughlin…Eli doesn’t even get respect from ex-teammates, sadly.

    The guy is just trying to endear himself to his new fans. No biggy.he knows that eli brought him a championship. What’s he supposed to say? Giants cut him quickly!! Eli and flacco have a lot of away playoffs wins and flacco has some eli in him but the ravens have hard very limited injuries on there runs. Elis 2011 season was one for the ages. He kept coning back over and over again and really carried the giants without a running game. Ravens had a great running game and there defense was heathy.

  10.  demo3356 says:

    LOL! No problem with this statement.. Pretty Sure both Joe Flacco’s mom and wife know that Eli Manning is a better QB than Flacco. The problem is Canty cant say that or he would be ostracized from his new team. Whats he supposed to say? Eli is way better but the Giants cut me and the Ravens are paying me a lot of money so I’ll deal with this uni brow hack we have at QB? Its a clown question and there is only one way to answer it..
