You can likely file this under the "he has to say that" category, but brand new Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle Chris Canty said on Friday that Joe Flacco is a better quarterback than New York Giants signal caller and two-time Super Bowl champion, Eli Manning.
There's no denying Flacco has a big arm, but prior to his Super Bowl run a season ago, many had begun to wonder aloud if his time in Baltimore was up. Fans and experts alike began to openly criticize Flacco, with some going as far as to suggest he was vastly overrated. Of course, that's a story we've all heard/seen before, as the pundits did the same thing with Eli prior to Super Bowl XLII and even continue to do to this day.
And while Canty did credit Manning with being “good in clutch situations when you’ve got to have that fourth-quarter drive,” he maintains that he'd prefer Flacco if the game were on the line.
“He throws a beautiful deep ball, he throws it only where the receivers can get their hands on it,” Canty said. “You’re talking about in the vertical passing game and they’ve got some vertical pass threats. They got Torry Smith. They’ve got [Dennis] Pitta. They’ve got [Ed] Dickson. They’ve got some good weapons for him to use down the field.”
Ho-hum. This is May in the NFL.
