For those of you holding out hope Chris Canty comes back to the New York Giants on a lower deal, it doesn't look like he's sitting around waiting for it: a report from Mike Garafolo indicates Canty has already visited the Tennessee Titans and is on his way to visit former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid with his new team, the Kansas City Chiefs.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid knows what Canty can bring as a 4-3 defensive tackle or 3-4 end when healthy. Reid and the Philadelphia Eagles had to worry about blocking Canty in seven meetings during Canty's time with Giants and Dallas Cowboys.
No word on how the Giants will replace Canty and fellow free agent defensive tackle Rocky Bernard, or who will start next to Linval Joseph (who is in a contract year). Shaun Rogers, Markus Kuhn, Marvin Austin and Bobby Skinner round out the current depth at the position.
Canty, who the Giants chose to cut instead of pay $6.5 million this year, never sounded especially likely to return to Big Blue and this free agency tour doesn't do much to change that.
