New York Giants Director of College Scouting, Marc Ross, Withdraws Name from Jets GM Search

A few short weeks ago, there had been some wild and unfounded speculation that New York Giants Director of College Scouting, Marc Ross, had turned down the New York Jets for their vacant General Manager position. That turned out to be incorrect and he interviewed for the position early last week. However, after meeting with Gang Green and mulling it over, Ross has decided to withdraw his name from consideration, reports Brian Costello of the New York Post.

Although no official reason has been given for Ross' decision to walk away, it likely has to do with Woody Johnson's desire and insistence on retaining Rex Ryan as the teams' head coach. Most newly hired General Managers look to build their own coaching staff, so anyone who takes the Jets job is handcuffed from the start. Certainly not a desirable position to be in for anyone.

Ross, who was one of nine candidates linked/interviewed for the Jets position, was also strongly considered for the Carolina Panthers GM job, which went to another Giant, Dave Gettleman. He was introduced in Carolina on Tuesday.

With GM vacancies beginning to dwindle, and with the Jets now out of the picture, it appears as if Ross will return to Big Blue for his sevenths season in 2013.
