This afternoon, the New York Giants continued scrounging the free agent scrap heap for potential diamonds in the rough. The team has announced the signing of wide receiver Kris Adams and cornerback Antonio Dennard to reserve/ futures contracts. Since the conclusion of the regular season, the Giants have signed a total of 17 players to reserve/ futures contracts.

Adams went undrafted out of UTEP in 2011. He caught on with the Chicago Bears as a rookie, but didn't make it out of training camp. He had stints with the St. Louis Rams and Minnesota Vikings before finally seeing some game action with the Indianapolis Colts this season. Adams caught two passes for 26 yards in the team's first game of the season. He was waived after recording zero catches in the Colts next two contests. He spent the remainder of the season on the Colts practice squad.
Dennard, a Langston University product, spent the majority of this season on the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad after going undrafted in 2012. He showed some flashes in the preseason, as he played in all four games and made two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown. He's an undersized corner that needs to bulk up in order to give him self a chance at making a name for himself. However, he's shown the propensity to be able to make plays on the ball, which was a notably absent skill from Giants cornerbacks this season.
If just one of the 17 players signed to reserve/ futures contracts works out and contributes to the Giants 2013 campaign, Jerry Reese is going to look like a genius. Most of these players will amount to nothing more than training camp bodies, but the Giants have gotten lucky over the last two seasons with unexpected contributors emerging from the woodwork. Perhaps nest season will portray a similar theme.
