The last thing the New York Giants needed as they head into a pivotal matchup with the Baltimore Ravens were more injuries, but that's exactly what they got on Friday. Both tight end Travis Beckum and defensive lineman Adrian Tracy were injured during practice, with Beckum being added to the final injury report. The status on Tracy, who rolled his ankle, remains unclear.

For Beckum, he joins defensive end Justin Tuck (shoulder), safeties Tyler Sash (hamstring) and Kenny Phillips (knee), center David Baas (hip/shoulder), running back Ahmad Bradshaw (knee/foot) and guard Chris Snee (hip) as questionable.
The word on Tuck seemed very iffy as he missed his third straight practice this week, but head coach Tom Coughlin had more encouraging words regarding Bradshaw, whom he said stands a solid chance at playing this weekend after trainers and medical staff came back with a positive diagnosis.
In addition to the seven aforementioned players, defensive tackle Chris Canty (neck), cornerback Prince Amukamara (hamstring) and wide receiver Rueben Randle (back) are all listed as probable.
UPDATE: Tracy is not expected to miss any time over his rolled ankle.

Too bad about Tracey. I keep expecting this guy to get a shot and to do something. Sounds like the early week optimism on KP may have been premature

This has such a different feel than last year and it’s not good.
There’s no cavalry coming this year. We don’t have a bunch of guys nursing minor injuries. All the injured guys are REALLY injured. Most of them are toughing it out more often than not.
There’s no “lack of intensity” that can be fixed with a pep rally. By all accounts, everybody is “all in”, they’re just legitimately hurt or plain old underperforming on the field.
That means we cannot hope for some sudden change in team dynamic to provide a boost like we saw last year. The season can only be saved by a specific group of guys. The guys that are healthy, but for whatever reason not performing well enough. There’s no other way.
I’d honestly feel better if there were rumors that guys weren’t working hard. That would mean there’s a known cure, getting them motivated. But that doesn’t appear to be the case. They’re trying but they just can’t figure out why it’s not translating to plays being made in the moment.
Where the hell is my pixie dust?

We were 7-7 at this point last season coming off an embarrassing home loss to the then lowly Redskins. You’re telling me you felt better heading into Week 16 last year than
Jfunk you are really forgetting the mood in here. No one was feeling good. The Jets was a true toss up game. We are getting Prince, KP Snee and Bradshaw back this game.
We have proven we can play well we just need to do it consistently for hopely 6 more games. This year we already know our best is good enough. It’s just a matter of playing our best or close to it.
Tracy coupled with Tuck likely not playing is not good. But it does provide a few things. First I think it means for this game Kiwi is a DE only. Rivers should play starter snaps at LB in replace of Kiwi. And lastly the preseason sensation Ojomo will more likely be active and be needed for a few snaps behind the top 3 DEs.
Last year did feel different because last year it seemed all season we were waiting for the team to get healthy. We were waiting for Osi to come back and get healthy. We were waiting for Tuck to get healther. We were waiting for Prince to make his debut. And when they all came, the team gelled.
I don’t get that same feeling this year. Nicks isn’t going to get any healthier than he is now. KP’s only going to get healthy enough to play, but probably not healthy enough to make the impact we were hoping he could. Bradshaw’s going to have foot/knee problems the rest of the season.
I still think this team is good enough to win the next 2 games. I just think they’re going to have to do it in the state they’re currently in right now. As jfunk said, there is no cavalry coming this season. They’re going to battle with the army they have.
For those of you who think the Giants offense needs to change the pace and play more no-huddle, I’ve got a stat that won’t surprise you at all. The Giants are 30th in the league in terms of plays ran from the no-huddle. Only 2.5% of the plays ran are from no huddle, and I’d bet 100% of them are 2-minute hurry-up offense plays. The NFL on average runs no-huddle 14.4% of the time. And no-huddle also generates 7.8 yards per play as opposed to 7.0 for regular huddle plays:

We’re a stodgy, old-fashioned team in terms of scheme and innovation. That doesn’t mean you can’t win. But at some point we’ll have to adapt to the new NFL. Not the easiest thing to do given the ‘maturity’ of our coaching staff.
There are more reasons than injury that prompted my post several days ago about not making the playoffs. I’m sorry. This is a different team…not personnel wise, but mentally. I think that Tuck, Osi and a few others have their 2 rings and that’s good enough. There is no “us against the world” mentality. Their seems to be little leadership that I can see. It’s a different team. They give lip service to the press but fail to back it up on the field. Yes, there are injuries. Every team has injuries. This team has the same guys with injuries every single year who never practice even if they do wind up playing. It’s time to take a long hard long look. End of story.
In 10 days you may have a lot of people agreeing. Till then I’m going to hope for the best. But I fear you may be correct.
