When New York Knicks guard J.R. Smith nailed a game-winning shot at the buzzer on Wednesday night against the Charlotte Bobcats, close friend and New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz nearly leapt from his couch in celebration. And knowing that his buddy was watching, Smith decided to pay homage to said friendship by breaking out a little salsa dance.
“It was a complete surprise,” Cruz said. “Funny thing was, I was actually watching the game and then when he hit it, I almost jumped off the couch. And then when he was coming off the court and I saw him do the salsa, I was like, ‘Oh man.’ ”
The New Jersey natives have known each other since they were kids and have a long-standing friendship, but that certainly didn't stop Cruz from being slightly critical of Smith's mediocre salsa dance.
“We’ve got to go to the drawing board a little bit,” Cruz added. “It was a little stiff at the end, but we’ll get that squared away.”
Smith went back out on Thursday night and scored 13 points in a shocking 112-92 victory over the Miami Heat. The victory brought the Knicks' season record to an Eastern Conference best 14-4.
