There must be something in the water in Florida. From the murder of Caylee Anthony to bath salts resulting in cannibalism (and everything in between), something strange is going on down there. And it continued on Tuesday morning as Richard P. Braccia, an alleged fan of the New York Giants, assaulted his wife and then fired shots at three deputies during a drunken rage after Big Blue fell to the Washington Redskins 17-16 the night prior.
“I'm really sorry. I was not myself. It's no excuse for my behavior,” Braccia told the Star-Banner. “I messed up pretty bad.”
Braccia, who has a criminal history including two DUI charges and shoplifting, was denied bond and charged with three counts of attempted murder on a law enforcement officer, domestic battery and tampering with a victim.
When asked about why he lost his cool, beat his wife and shot at three police deputies, Braccia said he doesn't remember much about the incident other than that he was drinking significantly for approximately four hours because he was upset the Giants, whom he's been a fan of for 30 years, had been defeated by the Redskins on Monday Night Football.
“I'm not in a good spot right now,” Braccia said, noting that he's on disability and suffers from depression.
The 50-year-old Braccia is currently in jail on suicide watch awaiting trial.
