"Poor Eli Manning” is a compilation of quotes by both the media and fans about New York Giants quarterback and Super Bowl XLII & XLVI MVP Eli Manning.
Despite his success, negativity and doubt have followed Peyton’s younger brother since the moment he was traded from the San Diego Chargers to the New York Giants on draft day of 2004. Regardless of what he does or how well he performs – even in a league that lives and dies by the motto, “What have you done for me lately?” – he is questioned and criticized.

In Sunday's 26-3 victory over the San Francisco 49ers, Manning didn't put up the huge numbers he had over the first five weeks of the season, but he still played quite well, finishing the night 15 of 28 (54%) for 193 yards and a touchdown. Unfortunately, a rare Hakeem Nicks drop kept Eli from eclipsing the 200 yards mark for the 29th straight game.
With little to criticize, most of his usual mainstream media hecklers were silent for the second straight week. However, freelance journalists, bloggers and fans with social media access would not be kept at bay.
Craig Shufelt, International Business Times
"Even this past weekend in which the Giants scored 26 points, the Niners’ D did a good job of shutting down Eli Manning."
Korey Beckett, Bleacher Report
"[Eli] never wanted to play for the San Diego Chargers and after enough whining, he got his way. … Griffin has had a better rookie year than Eli, and we're just getting started. That doesn't even include the running statistics."
MortonsLaw, FanIQ
"I hate Eli Manning with a passion."
Graig Salerno, Twitter
"Eli Manning looks like a retarded Quentin Tarantino."
Amber+, Twitter
"Eli Manning is so annoying. No, you will never be as good as your brother. Go away."
Connor Price, Twitter
"Eli manning should dress as a quarterback for Halloween."
Austin Davis, Twitter
"It amazes me how Eli Manning is not even that good of a QB. He's so lucky his receivers carry him."

These mother **** done lost their mind…
Craig Shufelt – If the 9ers D shut down Eli in that game, the Giants D ended Smiths career.
Korey Beckett – So did Cam Newton and we see where that got him. As far as NY vs SD, it got him 2 SB rings and MVPs, so can you blame him?
MortonsLaw – Eli must be doing something right if this is the best you can come up with.
Graig Salerno – recycled “retard” comments about Eli… Thats more played out than hip-hop names with “ice” and “lil”.
Amber+ – might want to watch a little more football without blinders on.
Connor Price – should go as a intelligent twitter poster (shutters at that scary image).
Austin Davis – clearly has never seen a Giants game in his entire life.
- This is one of the most desperate and pathetic Poor Eli collection of comments yet. Only means good things for Giant fans :)

For God’s sake man, NO ONE is hating on him. We just don’t think he is the “anointed one” you and others do.
Personally, I like BOB. He is articulate, charismatic, seemingly bright, good role model but unfortunately, aesthetically unpleasing.
LOL, ‘anointed one….aren’t you cute.
If it’s not hatred, than it’s jealousy. I’ve never seen so many posters here work together to undermine a quarterback that’s not on our team. Why? He’s a kid that brought some hope to a sh!tty team. Let him enjoy his 15 minutes before he comes crashing back down.
Are we all salty just because Eli never got as much hype as Bob? Who cares? He’s a two-time Super Bowl winning quarterback that many consider elite. He’s also an MVP candidate this year.
This ‘Poor Eli’ section is getting desperate for negative comments. No self-respecting commentator will dare suggest that Eli Manning is anything but a world-class QB.
Tell that to Kurt Warner.
To be fair, the hits he’s taken over life has pretty much left him a barely functioning pile of meat. It’s amazing enough that he’s able to string words together into a sentence, so I’m willing to give him a pass on the content of his words…

Coughlin said David Diehl is nearing full strength and will continue to be brought along but he admits O-line is doing well.
I hope this means TC doesn’t try to re-insert Diehl as a starter.

Yikes… weren’t we all having this same conversation two years ago after an ineffective O’Hara was set to return from injury?
The running game and pass protection had improved dramatically with Seubert at center. Nobody here thought Coughlin would be crazy enough to try and “fix” that which clearly had not been “broken” in O’Hara’s absence.
Of course O’Hara was, in fact, reinserted into the starting lineup with predictably unhappy results.
I suspect we’re about to see the same with Diehl. Never underestimate the power of loyalty when it comes to the decision making of the Giant coaching staff.
Maybe a year ago, not now. Coughlin is SO committed to the run, and so sure that he is right that it’s the second/third most important thing the team has to do (run, stop the run, win the turnover battle), and so RIGHT about that, that I don’t think he’s going to mess with a working formula.
I think Locklear has the position unless he regresses. But I LOVE Diehl as that sixth lineman in the strong formation.
This situation isn’t all that different than the O’hara one. The OL had played really well with Seubert at center but we still re-inserted O’hara. I think we all hope the OL stays the same but I think there’s a possibility Deihl is re-inserted. If he isn’t starting by the Dallas game then I think we are safe.
Dan, you might want to rename this weekly piece “Twitter Twits”. They used to at least sometimes be funny. Now it has devolved into pathos.
And if Dan hasn’t done so already, he may want to think about starting a “Poor Bob” series on Redskins 101.
Lord knows, there’d be no shortage of material courtesy of all the “haters” on this site.
lol.
So salty…..
Twidiculous, Twidiotic Tweets from Twetards?
I can’t believe this column is still drawing readership.
But then again, we’ve got $1 Trillion in welfare subsidies, near 8% unemployment with 330,000 new applications this week, a fiscal cliff staring us in the face, and extremely troubling foreign affairs issues, but the political discussion is centered around “Binders of Women.”
Never underestimate the stupidity of the general public, or our “leaders.”
We women never underestimate the stupidity of the general public.
Sorry for interjecting politics into what is supposed to be a sports blog, and a momentary relief from the problems of the world and in our lives, but this issue is incensing me.
Please, check that ish at the door.
The oversaturation of so-called “political” coverage right now makes the sporting media’s ongoing love affair with Bob appear understated by comparison.
I come to G101 as a refuge from all that garbage. I suspect I’m not alone.
Fair enough. But at this point, “Poor Eli Manning” has sunken to an equally inane level.
Hey, it’s not my favorite feature either.
But Dan says it still brings a lot of eyeballs to the site. If “Poor Eli” helps keep G101 up and running, then I’m all for its continued existence.
This thread used to be funny. It no longer is. Seriously, why do we care what some unknown twits tweet?
kinsho so how should we address RG3?
I haven’t seen anyone say he wasn’t good. We are just not crowning him yet. I don’t see what’s the issue in lack of respect for RG3?
You can talk about him any way you want. You can talk about how his mother used to hook for pez and how his father touched him at night. You can talk about how whenever he hands the ball to Alfred Morris, he gives Morris a little kiss on the cheek too. You can talk about how much he sucked as a football player throughout his entire life.
I can’t control what you’re going to say. I just don’t see any point on a dozen of you getting together and parroting Norm’s points against the guy. It was the conversational equivalent of a circle jerk.
