The pass rushers will face a more difficult challenge in this week's matchup against the Washington Redskins, who are led by rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III.

RGIII, who happens to be a world class track athlete, has proven in the first six games that he is a threat using his legs, but the Giants' defenders don't appear concerned. In fact, defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul had a warning for the rookie QB.

“Don’t bring it to my side,” Pierre-Paul said. “Go the other way.”

In the first six games, RGIII has amassed 379 yards and six touchdowns on the ground. He is clearly the fastest quarterback in the NFL, but the G-men have a fast defense. JPP doesn't believe Griffin has seen a defense of the Giants' speed yet this season.

“Trust me, we chase quarterbacks all time,” Pierre-Paul said. “We turn and run to the ball, no matter what. He may get past us and zoom right past us, but trust me we’re right behind him. You’ve got to respect that too. It’s not all about the speed. We’ve got guys, all 11 guys that can run to the ball very quick. You’d be surprised. Very surprised.”

Justin Tuck will be on the other side of the line attempting to contain Griffin. Tuck admits he has been impressed with what he's seen from RGIII thus far this season, calling him "the most exciting new addition to the NFL."

"He's a game-changer," Tuck added. "They haven't had a good game-changer at quarterback in a while. And he is that."

The Giants have a lot to play for this weekend. Not only do they have to prove they can contain RGIII, but last season the Redskins swept the Giants in their two matchups. If the defense can shut down Griffin, they have a good chance at getting their first victory against a division opponent this season.

I’m glad JPP is coming into this game so confident, but he should be careful about his assumptions. Last time I looked none of the Giants’ defensive linemen have 4.4 40-times.

I think the Giants are going to win on Sunday, but anyone who isn’t at all nervous about Griffen’s ability to take over a game is whistling past the graveyard. This kid, like Andrew Luck, is special. Usually playing against a rookie is an invitation to totally dominate an offense, but not when that rookie can take off out of the pocket and tear off a 70-yard run on you.

I think Keith Rivers and Michael Boley and Antrel Rolle will have to play very well on Sunday to contain this kid, and I think our defensive middle will have to play very well to stop the Redskins’ running game. If we allow the Skins to run, eat clock, keep our defense on the field, open up play action, and gain the advantage in time-of-possession it makes the possibility of RGIII making some long runs against a tired defense in the fourth quarter of a close game much greater.

I’m sure that Coughlin has kept the team aware that this is a game in which they’d better play well or they will lose. I think too many fans are way too sanguine about this game. Play like they did against the Niners and they’re fine. But play like they did against everyone else (except the Panthers) and it’s a very tough game that they could go either way.

Translation … make sure you do your best when you play me. I don’t want you letting down and increasing our chances of victory. Let me know if you need any more bulletin board posts to pump you up. Oh, and if you do make some plays on my side … be sure to rub my nose in it. Good luck on Sunday.

I don’t get this trash talking by the Giants. When does it ever pay off? Osi talks smack to McCoy who runs all over the Giants defense and right past Osi several times. Why try something like that again?

Confidence is a good thing. The Giants don’t make the playoffs last year if they hadn’t been confident that they were going to win out after the Washington game. But there’s a thin line between being confident and being a cocky pr¡ck. As a team which has thrived off of all the trash and disrespect directed at them (even if some of it is fabricated), one would think the Giants would know better by now.

I think JPP is actually daring him rather then trash talking. Osi struggles with the run and has bit and been burned several times already this year. So maybe JPP is ultimately saying I dare you to help Osi out.

    • GOAT56 says:

We talked trash through out the whole SB run. Remember JPP before the GB game. Actually, for us talking trash (or in a very positive manner) is a sign we are truly confident in ourselves. We talked the same type of “trash” last week but for some reason when we win people overlook it.

I respect RG3 but he doesn’t scare me anymore than Vick or Cam did. While RG3 might have the best all-around mix of athletic and throwing talents I don’t see him as that much better than either of those players right now. The reason why he has been more successful than those two players so far this year is their running game. I think the key for us is to stop Morris and make Washington totally dependent on RG3. We stopped Carolina’s running game and Philly’s running game for a half. We allowed a total of 14 points in those 6 quarters. If we stop the running game RG3 might make some plays but it will be hard for them to have prolonged success. They don’t have a Steve Smith or DJAx that scares you and even the closest guy to that they have Garcon is not likely to play. I don’t think RG3 can score enough points to beat us if we stop Morris. RG3 will make some plays with his legs but without the help of Morris he can’t beat us by himself with the weapons they have around him without significant help from Morris.

Yeah not a fan of the trashtalk either.

  6. TuckThis says:

Shut up and play. I can’t stand all this chirpiness. First Osi and Tuck …now JPP. They play one great game and now all is right with the world? Stop. Please.

  7. rlhjr says:

Offensively, the Giants will “Skin” (pun intended) Washington alive.

Not sure if anyone is underestimating this kid. I’ve watched him play three times (because I’m in DEADSKIN country) and he has not only shown running ability. He’s shown a feel for his offense and throwing touch along with a very powerful accurate arm. This is not the run of the mill “mobile” quarterback.

That said, he can and will make throwing mistakes. His legs will get him out of a lot of situations that his lack of knowledge get him into. He broke that 70 yard run vs. the Vikings because they did not stay solid up the middle. They lost their gap integrity and disciple. The defensive backs have to stick to their man because Griffin can buy time with the best of them. And Lord have mercy, this kid can run.

His weaknesses; He takes a lot of hits after releasing the ball. He loves to run and will in a split second. Until taking the hit vs. Atlanta, he was a in the habit of going for extra yards. His WR’s although made better by his ability to move are average at best.

It would seem the best way to control him is to surround/pressure him and let him throw to an average bunch of receivers. However, Garson jumps up the receiving corps. if he’s healthy.

Maybe JPP and Osi have the speed to threaten him on the pass rush. And from time to time Fewell should send a LB or DB capable of running with him. But he hardly ever takes a seven step drop.
They roll him out off of play action.

But by far the DB’s, safeties and linebackers will have a lot to do with the outcome of this game. They will have to hold their coverage longer than normal. And they have to be ready to corral Griffin when he takes off. His running game can be effective, especially off the option threat they flash.

The pass rush cannot make the mistake of overrunning Griffin. They must contain him first, and then move for the sack. Reckless abandon will play right into his hands. He has to be set up. Meaning this is about Perry Fewell’s scheme and execution of a veteran defensive unit. (IMHO)

Having the sunday ticket, 3 tvs going, and my buddy having rg3 on his fantasy squad. I have actually been able to pay close attention to the kid. I will say this he is the real deal and phenominal. However, for a while he faced defenses that just couldn’t get to him. I believe he was only smacked around in one game, (and it wasn’t the injury one) and he was visbily rattled. The guy get psyched out when he gets pummelled behind the los, if our pass rush shows up in a disciplined manner we can really do some damage to him.1. stop the run 2. Pressure him towards jpp’s side with rivers as a spy and finish the play with a hit

      • rlhjr says:

Agree. I think the Saints got after him as well as the Falcons. The Saints fell victim to Garcon. The Falcons just knocked him straight out.

  8. Willy Wonka says:

I don’t know after the giants saw how a little press gamesmanship worked in their favor last week is it possible that this is just a little more gamesmanship? I mean obviously the giants would far prefer the redskins to run on jpp’s side than osi’s, bulletin board material can work against a team, playing emotional (angry) often doesn’t translate to playing smart.

    • rlhjr says:

Did’nt think of that angle. There could be something to it. Because it is for the most part highly uncharacterastic of Giants team in general.
We’ll see, because it’s “out there” for sure. Maybe “Bob” takes the bait.

  9. rlhjr says:

And yeah, they need to STFU and play the game. Hopefully Coughlin has their attention in this reguard. They (JPP) are starting to sound like the 49′ers
    God forbid.
