New York Giants' Antrel Rolle is one of two safeties remaining on Big Blue's original 53-man roster that is available to play on Sunday. With Kenny Phillips injured and Will Hill suspended, the Giants are counting on Rolle to man the middle of the field, and perhaps fill in at nickel corner back on Sunday. However, Rolle is still dealing with a laceration on his knee that he suffered three weeks ago after he knocked into a camera man against the Carolina Panthers.
Immediately following the game, Rolle insisted that the injury was not significant. However, as the Giants are preparing for their Week six matchup on the road against the San Francisco 49ers, Rolle is still dealing effects of his knee injury.
"As long as I'm out there with my guys, man, that's what's good enough for me." Rolle said. "With this knee injury, it's going to take some time. It's going to take some time."
Antrel Rolle is one of the most dynamic players on the Giants defense. He has the ability to play as a slot cornerback, as a safety over the top in coverage, or in run support. The Giants need him out on the field this Sunday, especially against Alex Smith and the 49ers offense.
The 49ers are currently averaging over 400 yards of total offense per game in 2012, including 195.8 yards per game on the ground. Needless to say, the Giants are going to have their hands full on Sunday. With that, Antrel Rolle's health will be a major factor in how successful Big Blue is in stopping the 49ers.
"I never thought it would be this crucial." Rolle said. " It's just a lingering process, not anything too serious, but it's something that just lingers around and it kind of sticks with you a little bit, but I'll be fine. And I will be out there again come Sunday."
Antrel Rolle might not be the most talented player on the Giants defense, but he is a key cog in a secondary that has had serious health issues thus far through 2012. Luckily for the Giants, he will be on the field on Sunday. The question is how much his knee injury inhibits his ability to be productive.

Rolle is a LOT more talented than many think. A LOT more talented.

Every time I watch game film, I find myself saying “Holy sh*t, great play by Rolle” about 7-12 times.
Include me in the “many” group. I love Rolle’s ability to tackle in the open field, stuff the run, and blitz the QB. But his primary safety duties (help on the deep ball)–not so much. Slow recognition and bad angles. He’s a mini-linebacker to me.
All of this because some fat a.ss didn’t move his camera out of the way.
I feel like Martinek’s return will be short lived.

I haven’t see much of either of these guys, but might be he runs pretty similar.
Dan – I’m assuming no Nicks again this week. What’s your gut tell you about Hosley, Coe and Rivers?
There’s no way the Giants, even on their best day, can beat the 49ers. Like last year, and even like this past week, they only win if their opponent beats themselves.
Signed,
Greg Jennings, Clay Matthews and Cam Newton
I’d add that even if the 49ers make a boatload of mistakes Sunday, that still won’t be enough for them to lose to the Giants.
SF is just that good.
Anyone who’s been paying attention knows that their defense makes the ’85 Bears look like the Bill Sheridan Giants.
That Bill Walsh comes off as no better than Ray Handley when he’s compared to the transcendent genius that is Jim Harbaugh.
That their running back is so good that Bush v. Gore is no longer thought of as a famous Supreme Court case but as a comparison of Frank with Reggie – a comparison in which Gore always comes out on top.
And that Alex Smith’s famously weak arm has gotten so much stronger that Niner brass are considering encircling the stands with unbreakable plexiglass to protect the paying customers from being killed by the force of an errant throw.
The Giants don’t stand a chance. I’ll be delighted if they manage to lose by less than 50.
Norm you suck. NYG beat your stinkin 49r wanna be. I can say without a doubt no win for you. Giants love to face the wanna be best teams, beat them up and go home with a win. If you have forgotten last year so fast than get ready to re-live history. Alex is going down and out for the season
