Although New York Giants cornerback Prince Amukamara is still dealing with lingering issues from a high ankle sprain suffered during the preseason, a variety of other injuries plaguing the position have led to him being named the starter opposite Corey Webster on Sunday night against the Philadelphia Eagles. It will be his first career start in the NFL.
"Prince will be the starter on Sunday, no doubt, yes," defensive coordinator Perry Fewell said.
Following a solid week three performance against the Carolina Panthers, Amukamara's teammates officially removed the rookie label from him. There would be no more cold tub tossing for him, safety Antrel Rolle said. And now, only a week later, he'll get his first real test. With Webster likely to shadow DeSean Jackson despite his broken hand, Prince will matchup predominantly with the returning Jeremy Maclin.
Meanwhile, the respective statuses for Michael Coe and rookie Jayron Hosley remain unclear. Both are suffering from hamstring injuries, and in the case of Hosley, he's missed Thursday's practice on Doctors orders.
"That's why in the preseason, the coaches preach it, it's imperative that the backups know what they have to do," Coe said. "You never know. You need to be ready all the time. That's why we are hard on each other in our room. It brings out the competitive spirit in each of us."
Unfortunately for the Giants, it's not just cornerbacks. Antrel Rolle also missed practice on Thursday due to a bruised/cut knee he suffered when colliding with a sideline camera in week three. However, Fewell is nearly positive he'll play on Sunday.
"I don’t think there’s any question about it," Fewell said. " I mean he practiced on Monday, he practiced on Wednesday. I think he’ll be ready to roll."
In the event that Rolle doesn't play, it will be Stevie Brown, not Will Hill, who gets the starting nod.

Rolle practiced today, as I said yesterday, Rolle is as tough as they come. No way he misses Sunday night.
Sounding like Hosley is out for Sunday
I want to **** this will also be a huge test for the resurgence of our offensive line. Since David Diehl has gone down they have looked the best we have seen in the last 2 seasons, but this is a very good front 4 they will be facing who gets after the passer and stops the run.
If they preform to the level they did in the second half of the Bucs game and the Panthers game, we have answered one of the biggest questions and concerns going into this season.
I doubt Hosley plays as well but if he does we need to match him up with jackson all day. He would give up a few catches but we wouldnt see any deep ball completions to Jackson all day.
Hopefully Hosley gets to play we need CBs to cover these big play receivers of the eagles.
