Most NFL teams would crave a three-day weekend, but for the New York Giants, it was entirely too long. So as Monday rolled around, they were anxious and happy to return to work after what amounted to many bitter and sleepless nights following a 24-17 opening week loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

“I think every guy in this locker room is disgusted with how we played,” Justin Tuck said.
Tuck has never been shy about his disdain for the Cowboys, and even made note of it on NFL Network's America's Game. So losing to Tony Romo & Co., let alone the way they did, has not sat well with the Giants' defensive captain. In fact, it hasn't sat well with anyone on the team, nor their legions of fans.
"With everything that was riding on that game, the first week of the season, against a division foe, a team we have a lot of history against, you want to come out and play your best game and say ‘You beat us playing our best.’ " Tuck said. "But we didn’t do that. That irks me. That really bothers me. Considering the fact we had a lot of time to prepare for that team, we should have been more ready."
Following the loss on Wednesday night, head coach Tom Coughlin acknowledged that the team wasn't as prepared as they should have been, saying two of three practices leading up to the game were subpar. Making matters worse was the success of other NFC East teams this past Sunday … all of whom walked away with a victory.
"You can't lose a game," Coughlin said. "Everyone else is 1-0, and we're 0-1."
As uncharacteristic as poor preparation is during his tenure, it's nothing he plans to reflect on … the team has to be ready to play on Sunday when they take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Thus far, they're off to a better start than they were a week ago, with Coughlin saying Monday's practice was "better."

A positive. He needs to fire up.
Less disgust, more effort. They were PHYSICALLY beaten in the trenches on both sides of the ball. That cannot happen again this season. It sure was disgusting to watch. Reminded me a lot of the effort against the Redskins at home last year.
It seemed like a lack of passion and want too……That was the most concerning thing for me. I hope that game lights a fire under them….
It had better or the season can slip away before they right the ship.
Yep, I would say with the rest of the NFC East going 3-0 and everyone looking better (maybe not the Eagles so much) Sunday against Tampa is a must win.
I hate to say it, but after you’ve won two Superbowls it’s has to be harder to find that extra bit of motivation. Human nature and all that.
I don’t know about that
we looked the same last year against the skins and the year before against the Panthers
TC seems to have a tough time getting his team ready at the start of the season
last year we played horribly the first 2 weeks (Wash/St Lou) before turning in an oustanding performance againast the Eagles
I could easily see us come out sleepwalking this week against Tampa and hope that Eli has enough time and magic in the 4th Q to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat

TB is also dangerous because they have Sullivan as their OC. He knows and our QB and WRs really well and can help their DC play to our weaknesses.
This game will show if Bass and Snee are ready to step up their games this year. McCoy unlike the Dallas interior players without Ratliff have the ability to embarrass us and force Eli into mistakes.
TB played their game much like we use to play, very conservative. They will have a few shots but they will called a balanced game if the score allows. We need to get off the field on 3rd downs and covert them on our side. With everything else that’s why we lost vs Dallas.
I can’t agree with this whole Sullivan thing.
You see that game against the Panthers? Their Offense struggled. They weren’t that great at all. Lackluster performance by Freeman and the WR’s.
The defense won that game for TB.
“He knows and our QB and WRs really well and can help their DC play to our weaknesses.” I’m saying he will help their DC defend us better. Their D is their strength and he can help them in that area because he know know our personnel really well. He’s been both our WR and QB coach so he knows how our passing game works in great detail.
I expect physical CB play from TB to disrupt our timing. That’s what Dallas did and TB has the players to do the same. I wonder how we adjust to this tactic. This is new for us to deal with because as Norm pointed out the replacement refs are calling a different game that allows for extra DB contact.
How much does Sullivan help? I can tell you what the Giants are going to do in many situations and I’m sure as hell no OC. He doesn’t have any more insight than the other coaches who game-plan for games against. us.
He is our former QB and WR coach. I think that gives him extra insight to help their DC.
David Baas played on the 9ers. He knew there offense and i’m sure he was familiar with them defensively as well. didn’t help us much.
Perry Fewell was the former DC and Interim HC of the Bills last year. How much did it help our defense and offense when we played them?
we barely beat them in our own house.
I wish i could buy into that theory and perhaps i’m wrong. Different year, different team.
I you remember how the bills team was playing before the game we defended them very well. The had 2 long plays and were held stoned on just about everything else.
This is a position coach that coached Nicks, Hixon Cruz and Barden for several years. Then he coached Eli as QB coach. I’m saying he has a high level of knowledge about specific players. Will that cause TB to be the 85′ bears? No. But could that help them stop us on some key plays or just their DBs defend our WRs? Yes. I’m not even saying it will definitely make a difference but it could.
A player is much different than a coach.
Well thankfully they have Sullivan. They can cancel the ancient Navajo windtalkers that they would have needed otherwise.
I see your point, I just think that too much is made over those types of things. Teams run the offense that they run and they play the defense that they play. Maybe they add a wrinkle here or there, but for the most part they stick to what they do. This game will not be won or lost because of Mike Sullivan having special knowledge or anyone on our side having special knowledge of Sullivan. It’s a wash.
My point is not about Xs and Os, it’s about detailed understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of our WRs and QB. It’s not a huge edge but these NFL games are close and little things sometimes make a difference. It’s not something the coaches or players should prepare extra for just an edge they could have.
At the same time, TC believe knowing Mike Sullivan helps them
Q: Any similarities to the Mike Sullivan offense?
A: Quite a few.
Q: Does that help you?
A: Hmm, we’ll see. Execution. Need to play better than the other guy, no matter what. Just need to execute better than the other guy, execute. Tampa executed well, all three phases, too.
That’s vintage Coughlin. We don’t care if you know what we’re going to do, we’re going to do it so well you can’t stop it. Sometimes his wilfulness is a huge asset, sometimes it’s a weakness. Coughlin’s style is straightforward and never cryptic.
First i want to thank Dan for your help and everything u do with sports media 101 its not said enough
Second were going killed tampa we are pissed team and tampa going get it full force jpp tuck & osi will combined for 5 sacks this team will play lights out this sunday then suck against carolina
But FF55 is right … we could dig too deep a hole early … one that we just can’t climb out of no matter what last minute heroics the team pulls out. We were 7-7 last year and needed 2 wins to launch our improbably Superbowl run. 6-8 and the point was moot. If we’re 0-3 heading to Philadelphia then our chances are looking very slim.
If we can’t win these next two then even if we go 4-1 in our remaining Division games … a tall order in itself … then we’ll still have to win 6 of 8 out of a group that includes 49ers, Steelers, Bengals, Packers, Saints, Falcons, Ravens … only the Browns can be considered easy.
A couple more weeks of Superbowl Hangover and we’ll be behind a very large 8 ball.
I don’t think it’s wise to look at the schedule. There’s no game we have to win because we can’t win another game. It’s best to win vs TB because it’s better to be 1-1 than 0-2 not because everything is out the door at 0-2.
It’s one game. If we were 1-0 how does this senario change much? It doesn’t. We have to just play our next opponet. TB is good enough to beat us, especially if we play like we did vs Dallas.
anyone have a good/reputable place to buy a jersey from? I would like to spend a bit more on this one and get a “good” jersey. One with sewn on/stiched lettering would be great. I am also considering a throwback jersey. My Dad loved Jim Burt…just not sure I can pull that off. What say you my G101 family
1. Simms
2. Carson
3. Bavaro
4. McConkey
5. Strahan
Thanks for the input. Also…I have some old jerseys that I would like to get new nameplates for…anyone have a reputable site for that?
