New York Giants, Forever Collectibles to Hand Out 80,000 Scarves for Opener

By Dan Benton

The New York Giants and Forever Collectibles, a chief licensor of the NFL, have teamed up and will be giving out 80,000 "Super Bowl XLVI Ch4mpions" scarves (pictured below) to all fans in attendance on Wednesday, September 5th when Big Blue opens their season and begins their title defense against NFC East rival Dallas Cowboys.

"Why scarves on September 5th? We're not exactly giving them away to keep people warm. Our vision big: we want every single person in MetLife Stadium that night to "Raise the Scarf" before opening kickoff and generate a visual spectacular (imagine all of MetLife Stadium like this) that would be unique to the Giants, as no other NFL team has ever done anything quite like this. Not only would it look cool, but it will boldly display the passion of Giants fans as they head into the season as defending champions," Forever Collectibles wrote in a press release.

This wouldn't be the first time something has been given away with the idea of adding to the homefield advantage. You might remember the "All In" rally towels that were handed out last year when the Giants took on the Atlanta Falcons in the wildcard round of the playoffs.

That said, these scarves have a pretty incredible design, and after an entire offseason of being overlooked -yet again- they can and will serve one very important reminder: the New York Football Giants are the defending Super Bowl champions.

In the event that you can't make it on September 5th, Giants 101 has you covered. You can enter to win one of these incredible scarves simply by "liking" Sports Media 101 on Facebook.

Yes. Chances are they will try to grab some other players who clear waivers, too.

I’m not sure how it’s working for the Giants and Cowboys though, as they have an early game. They may be allowed to create some sort of practice squad out of the players they cut, while other teams have to wait. Not 100% on that.

I think you’re right. Larry Donnell just tweeted that he’s heading off to practice …

    Kujo –

The OL that ended last year had Snee performing not as his best. Bass at worse is the same player as the end of last year and likely better. Kareem wasn’t good last year and Lockear is at least as good maybe better. So as a starting unit its very similar if not slightly improved from last year. Now if Beatty can play then the unit can take another step up.

The real issue is depth. Even the OT depth is fine if Beatty is healthy. The interior depth is poor, I think we all agree. It seems likely some vet will be brought in or maybe even a young player we like. I know several were high on the guard Brandon Washington Philly cut.

The team is going to lack depth somewhere and this year it’s OL.

    • kujo says:

      **** meter.

Snee is STILL not performing at his best.

Baas hasn’t shown jack sh*t this preseason, as opposed to looking pretty good during the playoffs.

You can’t compare Locklear and Kareem because they play different positions. Diehl looks better than Kareem, but Locklear doesn’t look like he’s as good as Diehl. Which is shocking, because I didn’t think you could be any worse than Diehl. So that’s a net negative.

      • GOAT56 says:

My point was that I said that the OL was pretty good te last 6 games last year. And this year the starting unit looks as good or slightly better. Do you disagree with that thought?

        • kujo says:

          Yes.

And I am asking you to explain your faith. Evangelize me. Why should I see the light?

          • GOAT56 says:

How is that faith? Kareem was bad last year so I don’t see how our OT play got worse. The interior is that same. What reason is there to believe it’s worse? I’m just being logical.

This trade Osi for a stud OL talk was, is, and will always be patently absurd. Unlike Madden, for all the reasons you turkeys want to dump Osi (one year left, age, injury history, whatever else you wanna throw in there to devalue him) is the same reason another GM is not parting with a stud or any sort to acquire him.

And seeing as though the line returns mostly the same guys who were good enough to run the ball well and win in the playoffs last year, and in light of norm’s argument about the devaluing of offensive linemen, trading a star DE makes little sense. And even less sense for a backup OL.

In fact, trading anything of value for a backup OL because you’re worried about what happens in the event of injury makes about as much sense as trading something of value for a backup QB because you’re worried what happens in the event of injury to Eli. Injuries happen, and you can’t have all stars at all 22 positions and quality depth at all 22 positions as well.

The best 53 are on the roster, and you gotta roll with it.

      A) I said the Trade Osi thing was absurd and bar talk.

      B) I never said we should trade him for a backup OL. The hypothetical that I suggested was a trade for a stud.

      C) I said yesterday that we shouldn’t trade anything for anybody’s garbage. Sign someone off waivers? Sure.

  4. kujo says:

Yeah, gonna need one of these scarves.

Who’s going to the game and wants to try and hook me up?

          • kujo says:

No, you’re investing hope in an outcome which you have no evidence to support. It’s like believing in heaven. There’s no logical explanation for it, but there are some people who just can’t help but hope for that outcome, because it gives meaning to their existence and acts as a post hoc justification for the suffering they endure.

Here’s logic: I believe there has been a net negative with this OL, as currently constituted, when compared to the one we had in the playoff stretch last year. I’ll even be optimistic and say that Snee and Baas are as good as they were during that run, even though I have yet to see any evidence of that statement.

            Diehl = Kareem +0
            Snee = Snee +0
            Baas = Baas +0
            Boothe = Boothe +0
            Locklear < Beatty/Diehl -1

Now, in my mind Snee and Baas are worse than last year, so the result would actually be a net -3, but the fact remains that we have seen NOTHING to support your hope.

            • GOAT56 says:

You have no evidence either. Those are just you opinions like mine. What’s the evidence that Lockear is worse than Diehl was at LT last year? Why wouldn’t Boothe be better having to concentrate at just one position for once? Why wouldn’t Bass be better having one season in this system under his belt?

I don’t think Lockear is better than Beatty but my comparison was based on the OL unit that played the final 6 games last year.

              • kujo says:

The evidence I have is what we’ve seen this preseason. Not what *could be*. I think Baas, Boothe, Snee, Diehl and Beatty all *could be* better with more time, experience and better use of their talents. But until I see it explicitly, all I have to rely on is the sh*t running game and the decent, but not great, pass protection Eli’s had.

As for Locklear, if you can’t see that he sucks, I don’t know what to tell you.

                • GOAT56 says:

We disagree on Lockear this preseason. He was good IMO. I didn’t see him pulling any McCants out there, he was very good in pass protection. For this team I think pass protection is more important than run blocking so give me good pass protection all day. Eli had good protection all preseason from our starters.

  6. TheCatch says:

I don’t see a trade of Osi for a stud OL either. I believe we find a released vet as a back up as we have done in the past (the last two years if I’m not mistaken). Not finding what we needed among the released players or if TC/JR felt a bigger need I might look to package a Paysinger, Jerigan or Scott with a late round draft pick or straight up depending on the quality of the player sought ie. starter or backup.

  7. Krow says:

Nobody sees a trade for Osi happening … we’re just musing over an old ‘what if’ that’s been well chewed several times before.

  8. kujo says:

    Mike Garafolo ?@MikeGarafolo
Giants release an updated depth chart. Osi and JPP still both starters. 12 men on the field. That’s a penalty. #nyg

  9. kujo says:

    Mike Garafolo ?@MikeGarafolo
Also Bear Pascoe is still listed ahead of Martellus Bennett, which I just don’t get because Bennett has been, and will be, the starter. #nyg

  10. TheCatch says:

With the immergence of Cruz post the drafting of Jerigan I would trade him (bring back DePalma?) as we know you have give up something to get something.

    • kujo says:

      LOL…

Trade a 3rd round pick going into his 2nd year, who looks like a guy we just have to work into our system, and replace him with a NOBODY like DePalma?

      Is it silly season again?

      • TheCatch says:

kUJO: For a OL of equal quality! Why wait for the second or third round next April. Granted Jerigan is all you say but he is most suited for the slot which Cruz has locked down. I’m looking at just THIS year and our potential to make a run at another SB. Jerigan’s roll this year may just be as a number 4 assuming RR eventually works into the 3. Post a trade picking up an OL with equal value to Jerigan we would be a stronger team overall and have the area of your strongest concern improved. I’m not saying DePalma is a 4 either just that everyone moves up with Depalma just a backup for the slot wereever he fits in. You have to give to get, you are correct our line needs help. I don’t think we would miss Jerigan this year as much as you’ll agree we are missing talent and depth on our OL.

        • kujo says:

No one is going to trade a proven OL that they took in the second or third round last year for an unproven WR.

          • TheCatch says:

Likely not but it wouldn’t have to be someone from last year, I’d rely on my scouting dept to find someone of value. Maybe someone we value more than their team. (ie the Jets evaulation of Weatherford, idiots they are)

        • TheCatch says:

Look at it this way if this was your roster at WR:Hakeem Nicks, Victor Cruz, Domenik Hixon, Rueben Randle, Ramses Barden, and whomever is out there and you had two players graded equally one Jerigan and one an OL which one would you select to improve your team?

          • kujo says:

No, I won’t look at it that way, because that’s not the choice we have.

We already have JERNIGAN on the team. It’s not like we can just go and cherry pick someone’s offensive lineman. That choice was made 2 years ago when we drafted Jerrell instead of any of the OL available at the time.

            • TheCatch says:

Would that pick have been made if they had insight into having Cruz? Thanks for a good “barroom type back and forth” . Later
