New York Giants’ Jason-Pierre Paul Out Friday with Back Spasms

Game three of the preseason is primarily when the coaching staff gameplans for the first time and starters see their largest body of work prior to the regular season. For New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, that will not be the case as he's been ruled out for Friday night's game against the Chicago Bears due to back spasms.

“It’ll end up being precautionary based on what we had to do today by not letting him work," Coughlin said. “He would have practiced and played, but the medical people kind of said this would be the best way to go so that we ensure going forward he’ll be OK."

Osi Umenyiora will get the start across from Justin Tuck on Friday night, and will see most of the first team snaps. However, Coughlin insisted that had this been a regular season game, JPP would have played, no questions asked.

Pierre-Paul had been the center of attention recently after video of him dumping cornerback Prince Amukamara into an ice tub went viral. Although the Giants managed to cycle it out of the news within 24 hours, both Pierre-Paul and punter Steve Weatherford were reprimanded by Coughlin for their role in the incident, which the coach called "inappropriate." Both players have since apologized to their fans.

JPP is expected to return to practice next week.

Im glad he isnt playing. Not an injury to worry about and one less meaningless game were he actually can get injured.

Sam Re: Gamepass. Are you using some kind of service that may make your IP address appear to be from a different country? Also, since you already use the service, do you happen to have the Android app? A friend could use a copy of the .apk file.

On a side note, are PMs gone?

    Trat to IR.

Good to see JPP sit out. No reason to risk a problem when what has happened is very minor.

And GREAT to see Trattou stashed on IR. Now all we need is for Kuhn, Hendricks, and a few others to get something a little worse than hangnails and be sent there too.

    • jfunk says:

Agreed. Somebody slip some cash to one of the camp fodder guys and ask them to drop a weight on Kuhn’s pinkie or something.

    • Krow says:

Good news for Trat too (dreadful pun … apologies). But now he’ll get paid … and have an even better shot next year. Win – win.

Kuhn is making the final 53
    Bank on it

I’ve got my fingers crossed. I’m driving the Kuhn bandwagon.

As for JPP I really hope he’ll be alright, but it seems like this is just a way to keep him from getting dinged up in the game and I’m fine with that. No use having him get hurt — especially when he already appears to be in mid-season form.

with JPP shelved for the game tomorrow, this is the perfect opportunity for Adrian Tracy to get quality reps
but he left last week’s game early with a hammy and hasn’t practiced since
One of Ochimo, Marshal or Broha may get an unexpected chance to play against quality opposition

I’m surprised there hasn’t been more talk of this. I realize it’s more precautionary than it is actual bad news…but anytime your star player isn’t going to suit up and there’s talk of some type of injury, no matter how serious, it’s still a fairly big deal. I don’t think it’s anything serious, but I’ll worry a tad none-the-less. And I hope Ochimo and Tracy step up and build on what they’ve already done. Same with Broha, but I think he winds up on the PS anyway.
