New York Giants cornerback Jayron Hosley was seen wearing a walking boot during practice as a result of a turf toe injury he suffered during the last game against the New York Jets. Hosley is expected to miss the next game against the Chicago Bears, but he is hoping to return for the final preseason game.
Hosley had a solid performance last week, including the play of the game in which he picked off a Mark Sanchez pass, returning it for a touchdown. Although not typically considered serious, turf toe tends to be a nagging injury that can stick with a player for a whole season. Hosley expects to be back sooner rather than later.
"Hoping early next week. That is what we are shooting for, that is what I am working towards.Trying to work the soreness and stiffness out. It’s been going pretty good," Hosley said. "It is different. It is such a small thing that can cause a lot of problems but got to take it day by day to get it right."
Coach Tom Coughlin wants to see more from Hosley after impressing in his last game, and hopes to get him back on the field soon. He also wants to see Hosley more in the nickel back role. Jayron believed his game improved from the first week, especially in his technique.
"Definitely saw some improvement from last week," Hosley said. "My alignment and assignments and technique got better overall. Making that [77-yard interception touchdown return] play kind of made things a little better. Not too many plays [on the field] but I made it count when I got a chance."
The Giants need Hosley to get all the game experience he can, especially with the question marks surrounding Terrell Thomas' recovery.
