Former New York Giants RB Tiki Barber Ties the Knot with Traci Lynn Johnson

In an event that will surely do him no favors in his efforts to lure himself back into the good graces of Big Blue fans, former New York Giants running back Tiki Barber announced via twitter that he has married Traci Lynn Johnson, the 25 year old former NBC intern who is widely believed to have been carrying on a romantic escapade with the star running back while he was still married to his ex-wife.

“Many thanks to the NYC Clerk's office, especially James Mitchell who married me to my love Traci Lynn Johnson!” Barber tweeted. “Excited for the next chapters . . .”

The ceremony occurred only eight days after Barber's divorce from his ex-wife, Ginny Cha, was finalized. Barber has been widely criticized for the terms on which he left Cha, who was eight months pregnant with the couple's twins at the time of the split. Tiki lost his job with NBC because of his inappropriate relationship with Johnson, which was only one aspect of Tiki's fall from grace during his post-football career.

Shortly after his retirement in 2007, Tiki publicly chastised Giants quarterback Eli Manning for his lack of leadership skills. Tiki's relationship with his former team deteriorated rapidly from there on out.

In fact, he was even booed during his induction into the Giants' Ring of Honor. Barber's relationship with Traci Lynn Johnson took his public admonishment from a local level, to a national media frenzy.

Recently, many Giants fans have called for Tiki's forgiveness. He was an all-time great Giants running back and was an instrumental aspect to the offense for several seasons. However, some actions go beyond the football field. Some actions are so reprehensible, that no matter what Tiki does for the rest of his life, there will always be a faction of Giants fans, and maybe even players that won't miss seeing his face around the franchise anymore.

It's almost as if Tiki doesn't care whether Giants' fans embrace him or not. Just when many were starting to get past his off the field blunders, he brazenly marries a 25 year old whom he left his pregnant wife for, just eight days after the divorce was final. Hopefully, one day in the future, Tiki can find a way to get back into the good graces of Giants' fans. He truly was a dominant force out of the backfield for several seasons, and is among the top 2-3 running backs to ever suit for Big Blue.

However, right now, Tiki Barber will remain a maligned figure in the minds of Giants fans. No matter how bad some of us may want to forgive him, he is just not letting us.

In other news, Abby Manning was seen walking with Peyton around Manhattan yesterday while Eli was chatting up Pippa What’s-Her-Name. More on this possible scandal later.

I know camp hasn’t started, but do we have to hear more about Tiki’s social life? More Grant articles and fewer about Tiki please.

Tiki was a great running back who carried this team for a few years. He’s a smart guy who is also a jerk. What else need be said?

      Thank you.

Considering that he has not played a down of football in over five years and his media career crashed and burned two years ago, Tiki has done a damn fine job keeping his name in the spotlight.

Tiki is rapidly becoming the Kim Kardashian of the sports world – someone whose signature achievement is now that he’s famous for being famous. In fact, a marriage to KK may well be in the cards after this one inevitably goes south in 2-3 years time.

Kardashian’s village bicycle routine is pretty predictable. In fact, if you’re a black athlete, musician, movie star or employed in some other fortune-producing field, her loins will eventually present themselves to you. It’s the law of averages, really.

Would love to see Deon Grant come back. That guy is just a straight up professional who is very underappreciated. I think his attitude, class and intelligence is what helped rope Rolle in to the team mentality. We all know Rolle can be a little immature, but I think Deon helped ease that a bit in his first and second year. Love the guy.

As a side note, his jersey number is owned by David Wilson, who recently said on Twitter that he would prefer to don the number 22, which is currently held by Antuwan Molden.

Shifting the focus back to football…

…anyone else catch Mike G’s Q&A with Landfill last week?

Turns out that he was playing on one foot that had gone completely numb by the second half of the season. Here’s the relevant portion of the transcript:

How much was that ankle bothering you last year?

It was numb. I don’t know if you’ve ever had a numb foot before. It bothered me a lot.

    For the whole season?

The second half of the season. I just sucked it up, finished out the season and won the Super Bowl. It was worth it.

I don’t recall you being on the injury report at all.

I didn’t say anything about it during the season. I told the trainers once in a while, but I didn’t say a lot about it.

You didn’t want to be listed on the injury report?

    Not at all.

How did the injury affect you?

Let me give you an example. It’s like your leg is asleep when you’re walking. That’s what it feels like. But when it’s numb for a certain amount of time, you learn how to play with it. You adapt to it.

Was it something that happened at a specific point?

No, I guess every week it just got worse and worse.

And now that it’s behind you?

It feels great to get it fixed and be ready to go.

Holy crap! Considering that Landfill actually played his best football of the season during the second half, one can’t help but wonder what he’ll be able to do when playing on a foot that doesn’t feel like it’s “asleep.”

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: Dude is going to be a Pro Bowl tackle in this league, sooner rather than later.

    Landfill Joseph = BEAST.

Good read and i suffer from that 2u as a rumner its afwfully hard to pushoff from your foot when its like that so ur basically forced 2 really pushoff with one leg

  5. Krow says:

Traci Lynn Johnson must be brain dead. There. My final comment on that dog Tiki’s latest marriage … and hopefully my last ever on him. Please Tiki … go away. And take that whoor with you.

  6. GIANTT says:

Thank the lord its only a week or less to camp . I mean , Benton cant you post youtube film of some of the rookies instead ?

  7. norm says:

    Krow,

Any plans to attend camp this year?

If so, I look forward to your johnny-on-the-spot observations. Always a worthwhile read.

  8. Nosh.0 says:

You know it’s easy to think “oh my god, Tiki left his pregnant wife for a 23 year old blonde floozy!” But relationships are never that simple. Yes, Barber could in fact be one of the many men, that just can’t keep it in his pants. But I suspect that theres two sides to his divorce, which is often the case.

    • Nosh.0 says:

My bigger concern is that this girls parents gave her a porn star name. Maybe thats why Tiki left his wife for this chick.

    • norm says:

To be clear, I’m utterly indifferent to Tiki Barber, the man. I have no interest whatsoever in his personal choices. He certainly isn’t the first former athlete to make a hash of his personal life once the cheering stopped. Barring any truly deviant or violently anti-social behavior, I’ve never been inclined to sit in judgment of any of them. So I’m certainly not going to get on my high horse now over Tiki and his marital indiscretions.

My problem with Tiki is not an ethical one at all. I simply find him boring, in the way that I find similarly empty celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton boring.

What, exactly, has Tiki done of note during the past two years to warrant all of the attention that’s been turned his way? Make the occasional catty comment about the Giants? Whoop-de-doo; another civilian with an opinion on this team – just like everyone who takes the time to post on this board. Cheat on his wife? Heck, he couldn’t even do that in a real compelling fashion. Maybe if he did it on the scale of a Tiger Woods or an Antonio Cromartie, that might be something to talk about. But an older guy who dumps his wife for some young bimbo? Bo-ring.

Tiki’s clearly a bright guy who is perfectly capable of doing something interesting with his life. Should that day ever come to pass, I would not mind hearing about it. Until then, please go away.
