NJ Governor Chris Christie Unhappy with New York Giants and Jets Over Lawsuit

The New York Giants and New York Jets have filed a lawsuit against a project developer called Triple Five, who is in charge of the production of the proposed American Dream Meadowlands project (aka "Xanadu"). The often animated Governor Chris Christie is never afraid to speak his mind, and needless to say, he is not happy with the two New York teams.

The project includes a 638,000 square foot indoor water park as well as a 2.3 million square foot mall building, that is yet to be completed. However, Triple Five ignored an agreement made with the Giants and Jets that requires consent when there are changes being made that could affect the teams' game days. The main concern is that traffic will make it extremely difficult for fans to reach the stadium causing "terrible nightmares." Christie is unpleased with how the Giants and Jets have handled the situation.

"It's not the way the business should be done, and I'm disappointed in the teams for having done it — and I'll leave it at that," Christie told The Record.

Triple Five however, insists that the impact the project would have on game day would be "minimal." Alan Marcus, Triple Five's spokesperson, had some harsh comments that were directed at the two sports teams.

"Even though their uniforms say New York, they need to consider what is best for New Jersey, its citizens and taxpayers." Marcus continued, "The lawsuit filed by the professional sports teams is an insult to every New Jerseyan who hoped to find work at American Dream Meadowlands. It is an assault on the taxpayers of New Jersey who would benefit from the revenue to be generated by this complex."

In other news, Christie just likes to hear himself yell as, shortly after these comments were made, he engaged in a screaming match with a heckler on the Jersey shore.

    4) Wilson won’t be the #2 guy right away. He may not even get many touches at RB in the first few weeks, unless he’s a real quick study, or he’s in some very vanilla ground and pound schemes. Picking up the free blitzer sounds easy. But when Eli audibles from run to pass, then checks the protection based on a defensive shift, and then multiple guys blitz, and then a lineman makes a mistake…well a young guy could have problems keeping his quarterback healthy. This is not to say they won’t make some plays for him. But don’t expect him to play a whole series, the way Jacobs did. Not at first at least.

Cmon. “This is the code word for pass audible. And this is the code word for stand 3 feet away from me and block anyone who comes free, starting inside out. I’m a great quarterback and I’ll typically know who’s coming based on all the film I study and the scheme I set, so I’ll tell you a number to look out for.” More or less.

“But if the safety comes, he’s mine, so just run to the flat and I’ll toss it to you. But if the OLB comes too, stay and block the safety and I’ll burn the backer. Oh, and If they show blitz and drop out of it, be ready for a shotgun draw instead. Don’t worry, you’ll do fine. Oh, and get more of those jelly donuts next time. Austin is taking them all.”

Christie, even if he’s a fat tub, has a point.

Everybody believes in capitalism and a free country until someone wants to freely build a capitalistic enterprise across the street.

Christie’s right. After the state provides hundreds of millions in subsidy to create a new road network (never mind that it also served as a payoff for construction unions and others, which served the needs of the then-Governor and legislators) to make the new stadium possible, now Johnson and Mara/Tisch turn around and oppose the mall without trying to work something out through the Governor’s office? Bad form.

On the other hand, that statement from Big Five is such a crock it’s amusing. He sounds as if Big Five is some economic development agency acting strictly in the interests of the Jersey workforce. Right.

I hate the whole mall idea and wish it would go away, but if some developer and the state believe in it there’s no reason the team owners should not figure out a way to accommodate their new neighbor as long as they can get ground rules that will allow for very minimal interference with the Game Day experience of their customers on their 20+ days of football each year and their large event days on the schedule.

From what I understand, the developers met with the Giants/Jets a few times to try and work something out, and then pretty much disappeared off the face of the earth. No contact, no attempts to try and hammer out a compromise.

As with most things, we don’t know the whole story.

Let’s see.. Giants stadium was financed with municipal bonds. The bonds were retired via tenants’ rent. The tenants finance and build The Met. Giants stadium is torn down.

Didn’t the taxpayers loose a ton of equity in this deal?

Arguing about the running backs at this point has no point. Until we see them in preseason none of us know how quick a learner Wilson will be, whether Scott really has gained some lateral movement as he insists (I am very skeptical because that seems to me to be something you either have or you don’t…real lateral elusiveness is nearly impossible to learn), whether Brown looks like he’s back to what he once seemed to be, and whether Martinek has anything to contribute.

I suggest there are two things we can count on:

    1) Bradshaw and Wilson will be on the roster; and
    2) One of Ware and Brown will be on the roster because of the need for experience on the depth chart

Everything else at this point is up in the air. But it’s a pretty good bet that Martinek is either going to be on the practice team or gone. It’s also a pretty good bet that Scott will survive the cuts because they will value his potential as a kick returner and his straightaway speed (and they don’t, IMO, have a good enough reason in Ware and Brown, to cut him rather than one of those two).

It should be fun to just watch the competition.

Only in Trenton is the term “rotunda” used to describe both the governor himself and the statehouse in which he and the legislature conduct the affairs of state.
