New York Giants Select WR Rueben Randle in Round 2 of 2012 NFL Draft

With their second pick (63rd overall) in the 2012 NFL Draft, the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants have selected LSU wide receiver Rueben Randle.

From Hazem Kiswani's wide receiver rankings:

Tall and athletic receiver with excellent ball skills. Crafty route runner who plays with good awareness and knows how to help out his quarterback. Hard worker who works hard off the field and plays very hard on the field. Tracks the ball well over the shoulder and has reliable hands. Not particularly explosive and won't dominate football games but can contribute as a possession receiver at the NFL level.

Art Stapleton of the The Record reports that General Manager Jerry Reese was considering Randle with the 32nd pick on Thursday night, but instead opted to draft running back David Wilson.

"Very surprising he was still there," Marc Ross, Director of College Scouting, said. "[He's an] NFL ready wide receiver."

Having lost both Brandon Jacobs and Mario Manningham to the San Francisco 49ers, the Giants promptly replaced those two with Wilson and Randle with their first two picks respectively.

Not my favorite prospect in the draft but the value was there. Glad we took him over Sanu at least.

Got good info that Rueben Randle was being considered 32nd overall last night for #NYG. Talk about cashing in for Reese & Co. #giants

Like I figured: Pick was in immediately so they were shocked to see Randle still there. When he was, it was a no brainer.

Marc Ross said he didn’t think there was a chance the Giants would get him here. “Very surprising he was still there.”

      *Pats self on back* LOL

Interesting comment by Greg Cosell, who had mocked him to Cleveland at 22:

Randle, as I’ve said before, showed some similarities to the Giants’ Hakeem Nicks in terms of athletic movement and deceptive vertical speed. There were times watching tape I felt he was quicker and more athletic than both Justin Blackmon and Michael Floyd.
