What a killer schedule. The only break we got was not playing the Taints in New Orleans. The rest is just awful.

Something we need from this draft that is currently a huge question is a return specialist. Maybe we draft a RB, WR or CB that can help in this area but it’s certainly a need. If Jernigan wins our 3rd WR spot he might not be KO or PR (if he learns to hold onto the ball) this year anyways. Hixon due to his injuries is likely not going to help much. Witherspoon as PR? Scott as KR? Are the only players I can see who maybe can help besides Jernigan & Hixon on the roster. But neither showed enough to go without drafting someone who can possibly help at both KR and PR.

There’s no sugar coding this schedule. The 3 “easy” games are TB, Clev & Wash at home? Wow! Again our 1st 7 games is the “easy” part of the schedule. @Wash is the only game with a team that finished below 500%.

But our division rivals play the same schedule save for 2 games so again no matter our record goal #1 is winning our division. There might only be one NFC east team in the playoffs again.

    typical giant schedule
first 8 not so bad; 2d 8 killer
potentially leaves the team staggering to the finish line
of course, Pitt might suck due to line problems
Cincy may have been an aberration last year and Dalton may catch the sophomore blues
the Skins may well regress with RGIII at the helm
Atlanta, forever up and down, may hit the downs,
so maybe the first half will be the tougher of the 2 and the g-men will soar into the playoffs

If you are interested in participating in the 3rd annual G101 Mock Off, put together a 4-round mock draft for the Giants picks and email it to me at mkier86 AT aol DOT com. Please include the players’ name, position and college. Remember to include our 4th round supplemental pick. And when you email me (or get me on Facebook), please include your G101 username.

All submissions need to be sent to me by the morning of Thursday, April 26th so that we can post them on G101 prior to the start of the draft. I’ll post this message a few times a day for the next week, but please get your stuff in ASAP!

    GOAT56,

We disagree on the value of a potentially great interior lineman. The fortunate thing for me is that other teams have agreed with my opinion, with a several being taken in the top 2 rounds each of the last few years. Obviously, the Giants haven’t been one of those teams, and I am certainly not arguing against Reese’s logic. The beauty of this mock draft “contest” is that you get to say whatever you want without really caring whether you are correct or not. I think bolstering our interior OL would yield better results longterm than adding a TE or RB, so I favor that. If a great DE prospect is there at 32, or WR, I’d probably favor that above Konz.

But you seems to think “value” is something set in stone, whereas I think it’s more fluid and contextual.

Well well, another off season with Kujo blathering on and on about interior lineman…You’d never guess that Little Costanza played center in high school:-)

      • kujo says:

Hahaha! It would have been funnier if you envoked the image of me being an ankle grabber before mentioning the center thing.

BTW, I was just defending the comment I made a few threads ago about giving a guy like Konz a look if he happened to drop to #32. Aside from DeCastro, he’s pretty much the only interior OL even on discussion in the first round. In my mock, I’ve got us taking a DE in the 1st and an interior OL with our compensation pick in the 4th. Would you disagree with that, fathead?

Truth be told, there are very few “easy” games on any NFL schedule. The league has done a great job of evening out talent and competitiveness. Having said that, the schedule we’ve got is brutal. As I said a few weeks ago, winning 10 games would be a real accomplishment this year. To do that the team will have to find a way to win some close ones and the good thing about that is that this team knows it is a great 4th quarter team thanks to its “best 4th quarter quarterback in the history of the NFL”. Eli won’t win every one of those close games, but he’ll find a way to win way more than his share.

With this schedule we know one thing: we are going to see some terrific, competitive, football throughout the season. I’m really looking forward to it. And lest anyone forget, I will repeat what I’ve been saying for many years: all you need to do is get to the playoffs and hope you are then “hot”. Everyone should remember that when the Giants drop a pair of games in succession this season. What counts is how they stand against their division rivals. And their schedules are nearly as tough as ours.

  8. demo3356 says:

Wow! Schedule is Bru-tal! I’m going on record now that once the giants lose a game or two in late November/ early December, some As&hole (probably Stoll) will be in here talking about how Coughlins teams always fold down the stretch and calling for him to be fired..Book it…

    Thoughts:

    1. Wish we had the Saints early when a bunch of players/coaches will be suspended. They’ll have everyone by Payton back by our matchup no doubt.

    2. Nice to get the bye right before we play GB. Wonder if they have the same deal.

    3. Glad to sandwich 49ers between Cleveland and Washington.

    4. Week 17 vs. Philly could be like last year’s week 17 vs. Dallas (for the division).

    5. Did we really only get 2 primetime games as defending champs, or is this still being updated?

    6. Last 4 could be brutal.

    • wlubake says:

oops on the extra 6. Another thought is that I prefer the later bye week. Gives us a chance to get banged up before we get much needed rest. Better to have the rest for the home stretch. Always hated a week 4 bye.

  10. Nosh says:

All I ever look at with this stuff is where the bye week is. Hate it when it’s too early. This is a nice late bye that hopefully helps us get ready for the stretch run.
