In another display of maturity beyond his years, New York Giants wide receiver and second team AP All-Pro Victor Cruz turned down ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" earlier this week. And no, it wasn't because Cruz didn't feel he had a legitimate shot at winning, it's because he understands there are more important things to be focus on at the moment.
"I just want to be focused on football and focused on what's to come," Cruz said. “I’m just not at a point where I felt like I should be doing that stuff.”
With the playoffs at hand, Cruz's attitude is exactly the one you'd want him to have, but as only a second year player thrust into the spotlight, not necessarily one you'd expect him to have. However, the youngster out of Massachusetts continues to surprise in the way that he's handled his sudden fame and admiration. He's managed to keep his eyes on the prize and has not allowed his head to swell. He strives to win as a unit and to improve individually, and that's something you just can't teach.
Does all of that mean he won't eventually find himself on the Dancing with the Stars stage? He doesn't rule it out as an eventual possibility…
"I've got a little bit of rhythm, but I don't know how good I'd be at the tango or something like that," he added.
The Giants and their fans should consider themselves lucky that this young man wears blue.
