It's been a tumultuous year for the New York Giants defense, but that hasn't stopped experts (and fans) from praising the individual players who deserve it. Case in point: defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, who has won NFC Defensive Player of the Week twice over the last three weeks.
Now, two sixth-round rookies have earned their share of the praise as well.
Mike Tanier shared the following input on Williams:
Williams played his way into the all-rookie lineup in the last few weeks. When you look at what the Giants have gone through on defense, it is amazing that they are still in the playoff picture. Williams is one of the reasons they have not totally collapsed.
Sash made his way onto the All-Rookie Team because of his play on Special Teams, not at safety. He and Akeem Dent of the Atlanta Falcons were listed as the gunners.
These two combined for 22 solo tackles on special teams, and I love the name "Akeem Dent." Williams and Baldwin help round out some seriously awesome special teams.
In addition to Sash' 17 tackles, he's also forced two fumbles this season. Meanwhile, Williams has collected 70 tackles, recovered two fumbles, knocked down four passes and has one stuff.
Both have gone through the normal NFL growing pains, but they've also showed flashes of serious talent. It's safe to assume they'll each be Giants for a long time to come.
