New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin revealed this afternoon that the team will place left tackle William Beatty on season-ending Injured Reserve (IR).
Beatty underwent surgery to repair a detached retina on Thanksgiving, and as Giants 101 noted at the time, the recovery period could be upwards of several months. Despite hopes to the contrary, word came back that Beatty would not be healed before the conclusion of the season, and thus the team has decided to put him on IR.
Linebacker Chase Blackburn will be signed and take his place on the 53-man roster. Meanwhile, David Diehl will remain the starter at left tackle.
In other injury news, Coughlin said “chances are” Osi Umenyiora will not play this week (possibly longer). Additionally, linebacker Mark Herzlich, who injured his ankle on Monday night, was seen in a walking boot. Wide receiver Victor Cruz was also added to the injury report with a hip injury, but it’s considered minor.
On the plus side of things, both running back Ahmad Bradshaw and linebacker Michael Boley returned to practice.
