New York Giants’ Kevin Gilbride Wanted Steve Smith, Distances Himself from Brandon Stokely

The New York Giants have always been a strong, blue-collar organization. The front office was always (or at least appeared) united and rarely, if ever, did you see dissension.

That is until now.

In a most passive-aggressive way, offensive coordinator, Kevin Gilbride, told the media today that he had really hoped the Giants organization would have brought back Steve Smith.

According to Tom Rock at Newsday, Gilbride said:

“We had wanted all along Steve Smith back and that was the objective, that was the hope and the expectation … But when that didn’t happen, then we have two young guys that we think can do it [Victor Cruz and Domenik Hixon].”

But the drama doesn’t end there as Gilbride seemed less than thrilled about the decision to sign wide receiver, Brandon Stokely. Gilbride continued:

“How fast will they be able to evolve into the experienced receiver that you need at that spot where everything is happening so quickly inside? The powers above me made that decision and we needed to add this additional receiver.”

Perhaps the most interesting wording chosen in this statement is that of “this additional receiver.” It almost seems like Gilbride is talking about an object, as opposed to a battle-tested, veteran receiver. At the very least, as seen on several reports on this story, it seems very clear that Gilbride was not “stoked” about Stokely being added to the roster.

To add some context around Stokely, the man had a monster 2004 season with the Indianapolis Colts where he caught 68 passes for 1,077 yards and 10 touchdowns. Admittedly, that was a long time ago and he is 35 now, but he’s still a talented receiver with a ton of experience…which Tom Coughlin hopes he will share with the younger receivers.

New York Giants’ Terrell Thomas Issues Heartfelt Message to Big Blue Fans

When New York Giants cornerback Terrell Thomas was lost to an ACL injury during the preseason, the emotion of that was felt throughout Giants Nation. Not only had Big Blue lost an incredibly talented and important player, they had lost a fan favorite who is uniquely identifiable. His teammates lost a friend and a leader, and you could tell from the interviews following that game, it was a very emotional scene in the locker-room.

Since going down with said ACL injury, T2 has all but gone mute. His Facebook and Twitter pages have become dead space and his frequent fan interaction has certainly been missed.

Now we know why.

Thomas posted a very sentimental and heartfelt message to all Giants fan this morning on his personal website.

“I have been away for a while; I was devastated after the injury. I had to get away to gather my thoughts, that is why I haven’t been active on Twitter and Facebook. I truly appreciate all my fans and followers; I feel that I let everybody down. Thomas wrote. “This is the biggest example of life doesn’t always goes as planned. God has a plan for you and sometimes you can’t question or understand it but you have to go with it and this is what God has planned for me. I hope my story returning to football after this injury will motivate others not just athletes but everyone, you need to rise above the situation when life gives you an unexpected event or challenge. You have to keep striving towards your goals.”

In an age when most players are all about greed, it’s amazing to see a player who views things the way Terrell does. Unfortunately, it also makes his situation that much harder to accept.

To read the full entry, be sure to visit T2′s personal website … and be sure to let him know how much he’s appreciated.

From all of us at Giants 101, we wish him a speedy recovery and thank him for all of his continued hard work.

New York Giants Cornerback Prince Amukamara on the Mend

September 15th, 2011 at 1:56 PM

First round draft pick Prince Amukamara was one of the first of what turned out to be a long, long list of injured New York Giants this season. Unlike the dozen or so on injured reserve for the rest of the season, the Prince is expected back and has starting taking baby steps towards getting into game shape.

Mike Garafolo of the Star–Ledger reports that Amukamara was jogging at practice yesterday and has ditched the walking boot that has become his constant companion. Any which way, this is good news for a Giants secondary that was abused by Rex Grossman in week one.

Garafolo says Prince appears on target for a late September or early October return. Many are clamoring for the 19th–overall draft pick to be dropped right into the lineup as the nickel back, we wonder if a rookie who had no training camp and hasn’t had a real workout in over a month will be game ready that quickly.
