The New York Giants have finally made a splash in free agency! Well, not really…but it does appear that back-up quarterback David Carr will be returning to the Big Apple for his second stint with Big Blue.
“NY, round 2, can’t wait to get back, Great Staff, Great Players, Best Fans in the game…and what an amazing city. 2much 2 pass up,” Carr tweeted.
But does that mean the Giants or the New York Jets?! Mike Garafolo of The Star-Ledger posed that very same question.
“GIANTS of course,” Carr responded.
This move likely means the team will eventually release or trade Sage Rosenfels and his $3 million salary, but for now they plan to keep him around to compete for the back-up job. The one luxury he did have going for him was that he was the holder, but that job may fall to punter Steve Weatherford…assuming he beats out Matt Dodge for the starting spot.
The greater effect of this signing may be felt by Jim Sorgi (UFA), who is not likely to be brought back by the Giants.
Other Notes:
- Teammates of Steve Smith feel he will miss the first month of the 2011 season.
- The Giants worked out Center Josh Beekman yesterday.
