WFAN is reporting this morning that New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora will, as anticipated, holdout.
The decision by Umenyiora to holdout comes on the heels of Co-Owner John Mara’s suggestion that he talk to General Manager Jerry Reese man-to-man.
Umenyiora feels a promise to renegotiate his contract was broken by Reese, and he signed an affidavit to that effect as a part of the players’ antitrust lawsuit against the NFL.
There has been recent speculation that Big Blue may release Umenyiora outright, but as Giants 101 mentioned a few days ago, that makes little sense when they could, at the very least, trade him for a draft pick.
Update: Although no meeting is scheduled, management does plan to discuss the contract with Osi in the near future. Mara recently made it clear to Umenyiora that they would like to have him remain with the Giants.
Other Notes:
- Oregon LB Spencer Paysinger has agreed to terms with the New York Giants, bringing their UDFA tally up to four.
