Although the current NFL Lockout has left free agency in extended limbo, CBS Sports posed an interesting question on their “Rapid Reports” section yesterday.
Could the New York Giants bring back linebacker Kawika Mitchell?
Mitchell, who has spent time with both the Buffalo Bills and New Orleans Saints since leaving Big Blue following the 2007 championship season, would be a free agent if the NFL were to operate under the terms of their previous Collective Bargaining Agreement.
At 31, and even after suffering through a knee injury that caused him to miss 15 games last season, Mitchell is an interesting option. He was fan favorite in New York, and that speaks volumes considering how negatively fans currently view the team’s linebackers. Couple that with his love of blue and the near desperate need for a talented linebacker, and a reunion actually makes a little sense.
“Nothing compares to my time in New York,” wrote Mitchell via Twitter last year.
There are still a lot of legal hurdles to clear before the team can even consider looking at Mitchell, but you can bet, if asked, Jerry Reese would give his time-tested answer: “We investigate everything.”No tags for this post.
