The New York Giants have signed the following player to their practice squad:
- DT Nate Collins
- OC Jim Cordle
- CB Seth Williams
- QB Rhett Bomar
- TE Jake Ballard
- S Sha’reff Rashad
- TE Bear Pascoe

No other team picked up Bomar?
No. Although, Bomar is talented most teams already hve their own delevopmental QBs. Plus many team have gone to 2 QBs so there just isn’t room. My fear is that when injuries occur he will be signed off our PS.

KD, KD, KD… when will you learn?
I didn’t reach out to say anything negative about you a all, nor did I give a damn about the “you people” reference! I say shiite about white people all the time, but mostly because I married two of them and played lacrosse in college. So I kid equally as much, but I don’t use this message board as my sounding board for all the reasons my life would be different if I were white. To each his own, but I certainly like the “benefits”. As a matter of fact, I bang KD every night however I want…, yeah, happens to be my wife initials! Between golf and that, I “get back at whitey” all the time, but that’s neither here nor there!
After living on the East coast, the West Coast, in Europe and now the South (where I came intenionally to be in a boring area so I can VISIT other places), I can afford to build a modest 4200 square foot house from the ground up for only $350k, I can keep a job earning 6 figures annually and I havent’s been robbed since I’ve lived here. The women are so spread out, I haven’t been able to screw up my second marriage by banging all the chicks that live close to me (like last time). On top of all that, I get to hang my GIANTS flag where hundreds of cowgirl fans are forced to see it twice a day as I live on a corner lot at the entrance to my subdivision. That IS the reason we come to this site, right?! I mean, to discuss the GIANTS, right?!
As far as hating me, I have no idea where that came from. You didn’t hate me when you emailed me the link to Antonio Pierce in the Air Horn intervew. You know, the email that came titled with your name from your personal email to mine. I can research it if you don’t remember, but I still have it somewhere from 2 years ago.
My personal motto: Love me or hate me, either way I’m cool, I AM who you THOUGHT I was! Go GIANTS!!!

@ dreadgiantNC – you are right about no one else wanted our PS guys. After following the team all of camp these are players that a lot of us think can still help the team. But after seen our recent camp stars who we cut turn out not doing much in the league, I will trust that we kept the best players.
yeah i mean, i feel like there are Bear Pascoe and Gatrell Johnson types on any squad. the die hard fans are convinced they are worth something because we’ve been over exposed to them. i think having strong opinions either way about PS guys is pretty silly because I’d love for someone to tell me who the last person to come from a PS and make a huge impact was…
@Jim – Good stuff on Duke, I didn’t think your were crazy but didn’t think you would be right either.
I would have signed FB – Johnson instead of Ballard. And of course we all wanted Brown but this seems better that our past PS.
KD, Christiania is in the outskirts of Copenhagen. Scandinavias Amsterdam. Personally I think Christinia is better. You should have picked Gothenburg over Stockholm. Tregärden in Gothenburg during the summer, cannot be beat. Willing blonds everywere.
you guys should make sure to check with ff55 that your opinions on this topic are valid and worthwhile before posting
Okay, that’s enough. For an idiot you sure like to criticize others. When you start posting stuff that makes any sense I might respond to you regularly, but just this once, first, there have been numerous players taken off teams’ practice squads who have had solid impacts on the teams that took them (I won’t bother to list them, you can look ‘em up) and here is why Pascoe has value (as would Gartrell Johnson):
1) The Giants are short a tight end and he not only played well in the preseason but also knows the playbook. he is a much better than just “solid” blocker. He’s excellent, and it turned out he had decent hands as well;
2) There are plenty of other teams who have undersized tight ends who can catch and big guys who cannot. Pascoe can block and catch, and is therefore potentially valuable to someone; and
3) If a tight end is hurt (and one will be) elsewhere in the league there will be scouting staffs that know that Pascoe was one of the waived players that the Giants hated to let go and that the Giants’ evaluation group is as good as there is in the NFL.
I could easily do this for Gartrell Johnson too, but it would be throwing pearls before swine in this case.
Oh, and when you want to insult someone on a continuous basis don’t think for a minute it makes you anything but a **** who can only wish that he had a better life and cannot stand when someone else earns what you don’t have.
In most cases, I hold my “tongue” with the few morons around here but you seem a particularly egregious case. Okay, that’s the last time I intend to bother responding to you. It simply isn’t worth the time or brain cells.
yo, real talk buddy, youre the one who began wit the name calling. you call me an idiot and a fool but i hardly post on here, certainly not enough that you would really be able to make an assumption of my intelligence.
again, lets recap: i had an issue with the tone of your posts. this is not a new thing, as many other posters have mentioned similar qualms in the past. i was particularly offended by the fact that you considered your opinion on all things Giants more valuable than the average poster here. i said my piece with no personal attack to you except to state that the general arrogance of your posts was insufferable. i never called you an idiot or fool or moron or SWINE, these are terms you have tossed around since i apparently have gotten under skin. this all could have progressed more with more civility, but you get really heated apparently when anyone makes a criticism.
if you had a shred of modesty of humility, you would realize that i have a valid point. you do preen about on these boards telling us how right you are all the time. you do. its not up for discussion. you have even admitted it, but always qualify it with “well i really AM always right so i might as well tell yall how right i am”
the worst thing in the world is an internet tough guy. everything i’ve said to you i would say to your face. i doubt you would be so bold to repeat your comments to mine. i’m really not tryin to get into it with you man but its a free country and if you are gonna post on a message board, people are gonna respond. just how you have the right to bore us to tears with your nonsense, i have the right to call you out when i think youre being outlandishly arrogant.
for the record dude, a quick google search found nothing for me on PS players that went on to make a real impact on an NFL squad. a quick google search will find just about anything in the world, so i can only assume that there are none. since you are the one claiming that there are, id say the burden of proof lies on you. put up or shut up.
Don’t know why so many of you think Bomar is good. I don’t think he will ever amount to anything.
Sucks about Andre Brown. Imo he had more potential than Danny Ware. Danny Ware also has a few extra years than Brown plus he always seems to get injured when given a chance to play. Yeah Andre Brown seems to get hurt too, but he is younger and seems like a better receiver.
You may be right about Bomar, but he has some skills (very strong arm, good legs) and may have that sang froid that a successful NFL quarterback needs. He hung in the pocket much more than you would expect of a young QB, and he delivered some really good throws along with the bad ones. I kinda liked the progress he made and think he could prove pretty good. I was, though, in favor of waiving him.
Andre Brown never regained the burst he needs to be a good NFL back after his surgery. He may regain that. Frankly, I hope he does. He’s a good kid. DJ Ware does have that burst. I really think the only question with him is whether he proves prone to concussions. I presume the Giants have consulted the best neurologists, but that still seems an unpredictable risk.
I just don’t like Bomar’s delivery plus he doesn’t seem to be that accurate. He really seemed to regress as the preseason went on. I like his ability to run, but he is not a running back. I really don’t like my quarterbacks taking off all the time. It’s dangerous. He got the most time in game action that he will probably will ever get in his NFL career and he did not show much progression to me. Next year is going to be the make or break year for him. But the problem for him is that unless Rosenfels or Sorgi is let go he won’t see much time in the preseason next year.
I think Brown had promise. I think Ware has already peaked kind of like a poor man’s Derek Ward. He won’t amount to more than a role player in the NFL. But I guess the Giants see it like running backs are a dime a dozen they found Bradshaw in the 7th round.
Well, I disagree about his regressing, but absolutely agree with you about his problem with getting reps next season if neither of the vets is dropped. But I think one will be. The Giants don’t need two older QBs around, may well only carry two on the final roster, and will want to showcase Bomar for a possible trade. Again, though, I was in favor of waiving him.
Brown DOES have promise, but only IF his injury doesn’t prevent it. Tough decision by the Giants. I really think they should have IR’d him and waited a year before deciding to expose him to other teams. But I’ll trust Jerry Reese, as always.
FF55, since Brown is not injured I find it highly unlikely that he would agree to being placed on IR rather than being released to see if he can get a chance elsewhere. You might argue that he doesn’t have to agree to it but can you see his agent advising him to miss essentially his first two years? The Giants would be in hot water for trying to stash a player illegally. Belichek got into some hot water a few years ago for doing similar things. I f I were Brown there’s no way I let them put me on IR when I’m healthy without filing a complaint.
Eric, good point, but he does have turf toe and that could easily cause as much as 4-6 missed games, depending upon severity. I think they would have survived the challenge if it were by the union, and they would be paying him.
Of course it all depends upon whether he really can get back that burst. If it’s there (it certainly wasn’t there in the preseason) then Denver made a great decision and Reese screwed up. Somehow, I doubt that.
He’s only expected to miss two weeks with the turf toe so again, I doubt he’d take being IR’d sitting down, that would be 2 years he’d be out of football. It’s all moot now as Denver picked him up. I actually feel like he had a solid preseason. He seemed to be a very smooth runner and I feel like Denver just got lucky. With Moreno hobbled and Buckhalter not exactly known for his durability Brown has a chance to maybe make an impact.
Nice call on Duke Jim. I was really hoping he would make it over Hagen after that game on Thursday, but it didn’t think the Giants would have the balls to keep him. I know it was against scrubs, but Duke looked promising. One thing to say about him that you can’t say for a guy like Barden is that at least Duke has done something in the preseason.
With the strong likelyhood that the owners will pass the increase to an 18 game regular season a third QB will would seem to be a must on future NFL rosters. I agree with what has been suggested here by ff55 and others that an expansion to 58 or so players would have to go hand and hand with the 18 game season. Just how many QB’s would be out for a few games with injurys during such a long season? You are not going to want to play the 2, 3, 4 or more games your starter is down without a ready backup on the bench backing up your now starting second string guy. The Rhett Bomars of the world will all have an increased value to a roster, and a Sage Rosenfels would not be available. Here’s hoping that we can develope and keep Bomar around for a while, we may need him as the best available option down the road.
Very good point.
