G101 Tailgate Reminder & Roll-Call!

By Sean Carroll

The New York Giants are halfway through their preseason, currently riddled with injuries and a notable amount of uncertainty, and despite all that, there’s only one thing on the mind of the writers at G101…G101 TAILGATE! When life hands you injuries, setup a tailgate!

As such, we wanted to remind everyone that we are gearing up for the first ever Giants 101 Tailgate. This is taking place before the Giants take on the New England Patriots, on September 2, 2010. The game starts at 7PM, but we are looking to get there nice and early to stake out a nice spot and get some quality time in with you all to talk some Big Blue.

Early next week, we will be providing the details on which lot we’ll be stationed in. But before that, we would like to get another roll-call going so we can have an updated number of G101ers who plan to attend. We want to make this a semi-regular (and hopefully, at some point, regular) thing, so we encourage everyone to come out and help us hoist the G101 banner.

So please, take a moment to consider whether you’ll be joining us on Sept. 2 at Giants Stadium (we’re not calling it anything else) for the tailgate. If you’re planning on joining us, drop us a line in the comments section. We hope to see a great showing and thank you all for your ongoing support and readership.

Giants Notes:

  • Unfortunately, the New York Giants continue to deal with a rather pesky injury bug. It was reported today by several sources that Center, Shaun O’Hara, will be out for the remainder of the preseason with a cast on his bum leg. There’s no need to elaborate on how big of a role O’Hara plays on this Giants team, so Giants fans will be hoping for a speedy recovery.
  • Additionally, Aaron Ross and Terrell Thomas will not play in the next preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens.
  • On a plus side, Ralph Vacchiano of the NY Daily News reports that Kenny Phillips continues to show improvement as he re-acclimates to football shape.

Adam Koets could get steam rolled during the final two pre-season games.

yep, they very well may be his last two games with the NYG…The Petrus drafting along with the Andrews signing makes him the odd man out..

Yo get this in the regular season!

By the way, with respect to Jim’s point of view on the last thread…

I hear what he’s saying, and there’s certainly room for concern. Not panic, but concern. In essence, in the middle of both sides of the argument.

But, where we should all relax is with O’Hara. If he indeed simply has tendonitis, then he’s fine. It’s not a tear. It’s not a pull. It’s inflammation, cured with rest and PT. He’ll be fine for the regular season.

BTW, are the Packers really sitting on 59 points in the preseason?

    • demo3356 says:

They look scary good…I have them and the 49ers as the top 2 teams in the NFC (Besides the NYG of Course)

I’m not a “Matt Leinart fan”, however, I’ve got a great idea – let’s sh|tcan the kid after about 3 quarters of play after not playing for 2 years with Warner/Fitzgerald/Boldin as our frame of reference while he’s chucking to Breaston and god knows who.

Seems well thought out to me.

And that’s the end of the Dirt show for tonight.

as usual, its not that simple…Leinhart has dug a huge hole inside the organization with his lack of work ethic and his interest being more in parting then getting better..The guy has not looked good once in the last 2 &1/2 years..That coaching staff has seen him every day in practice and in meetings for the the last 3 years and they are done with him, so I trust their opinion

Isn’t it time to let Ware go , he can’t stay on the field and doesn’t look good running back kickoffs. Moss should go too. As for Ross he stunk when he played the last couple of years and that wasn’t often. If they let Cruz go then they should get their collective heads examined.
As for drafting for backups at several positions, for the last 2 years they concentrated on the D Line and WR’s. I hope this years first round pick is going to be a star because he plays a position that has a lot of capable guys there. I would have prefer ed to see them draft D Backs ot OLineman this year.

I woke up this morning to find that I’m no longer lost in cyber-space. Many thanks to
Simon and Dan for getting my account back to log-in mode. I’ve been reading all along, but it’s good to know I can once again throw a comment in once in awhile.

As far as the injuries go, I’m clearly a glass half full guy. If this were the regular season, most of these guys would be playing. I’m glad we have two weeks to deal with them before the games start counting. Anyway, I’m excited about our chances this season. We have a lot of talent, but we also have a lot of question marks. It’s
gonna be fun to see what happens

If anyone wants in on a suicide pool that will be around $30,000 let me know..It is 100 points to enter. This is the leagues 10th year and I can vouch for payout because Ive won it twice. You can even pick the same team multiple times. Shoot me an email at demo3356@aol.com

    • demo3356 says:

Official Rules 10th Annual Knockout Suicide Pool Est. 2001
      Pick one team per week
If it wins, then you move on to the next week and pick again
If it does not win, then you are “knocked out” of the pool(ties lose)
Unlike most traditional suicide pools, u can use any team u want any week
If you want to take the colts every week …. Go right ahead
U can use a team more then once if u want …..sounds pretty easy but most of you know its still pretty tough
Point spreads are not used in this pool at all –all your team has to do is win
Last person left standing wins(last few people usually split—but all must agree..if not we play on)
winner take all – (90 percent of the peanuts collected)
Enter as often as you would like – no limit
      100 peanuts per entry

In thinking about Saturday’s game, wondering what “1st team” we actually field.
On D, with Ross and Thomas out, who starts at corner BJ? Rashaad?
Unclear right nowwhether Canty will play, if not I guess that means Cofield and Bernard get the nod with Alford first to rotate in.
Who are the starting 3 at LB? Or put differently, does Bullock start in lieu of Sintim?
Finally, how long does KP play for?

On O, with Seubert starting at center for O’Hara, but Koets to get the lion’s share of plays there (according to TC’s interview yesterday), who gets the nod at LG? Diehl, with Beatty at tackle? Is Snee a go at RT? And after the big 3, who is the no. 4 wr? Cruz or Hagan?

With Ware out, it looks like Brown and Johnson will handle all KO duties — neither has looked impressive thus far so it doesn’t much matter

On punt returns, will we get a look at Tim Brown? Or will TC really try Nicks or Manningham there?

I’m calling it now..Moss to the Rams for a 6th or 7th..Hear me now believe me later..He may be 5th-6th on our depth chart, but would be top 2 on this team

demo don’t you think spags will wait 10 days until Moss is cut?

      • demo3356 says:

he could and they would have first crack through waivers but he would be chancing another team trading a 7 for him..To me a 7th rd pick for a WR that runs a sub 4.3 on a dome team with a very accurate young QB is a no brainer..

        • Jim StollJim Stoll says:

hard for me to imagine anyone giving us anything for a guy who has never produced, is often injured, has shown little aptitude for the positions he should excel at, and who is a likely cut. But I hope you are right. I’d love any extra pick for a guy I desperately want cut.
