And now…for a few Saturday morning practice LIVE updates from our man on the inside, also known as Benton. Stay with us all morning as we’ll bring you all the ins and outs from practice, right here on Giants101:
8:35 a.m.> Lawrence Tynes‘ leg getting a good workout in. In Benton’s words: “Short as usual.”
8:45 a.m.> With injuries starting to pile up, today’s practice features a bunch of guys taking it easy. “Lots of players on the second field just stretching. Brandon Jacobs, Osi Umenyiora (and many others) among them.” Mike Garafolo reports
8:52 a.m.> Andre Brown getting the early work returning kicks. DJ Ware getting some reps in there too.
8:55 a.m.> Young roster bubble defensive back D.J. Johnson is “extremely fired up and physical.” Johnson is hoping he can lock down the 5th CB spot behind a fellow Johnson (Bruce).
8:58 a.m.> Perhaps Johnson is taking a cue from Fewell, who is typically “loud and seriously intense” this morning. Perry is demanding the defense sprint back into place after every play. On the other side of the ball, Kevin Gilbride is not watching drills as he has stumbled upon a box of donuts, and is spending his time angrily shooing away any donut seekers.
9:00 a.m.> Speaking of Gilbride’s offense, Benton’s reporting that they are spending a lot of time this morning working on the screen pass. The eternal optimist says: it’s about time we worked effective screen passes into the offense. The cynic in all of us says: why waste time on something this team never does well?
9:09 a.m.> Not a good morning for the Giants WR’s, as Mario Manningham‘s ugly drop is backed up by drops by Tim Brown and Victor Cruz. “Yikes!”
9:12 a.m.> Manningham bounces back. “82 with a nice job keeping his feet in on a a fade.” Ramses Barden also gets into the action “with a big leaping grab.”
9:13 a.m.> Some bad throws for Rhett Bomar this morning. He’s been up and down all camp, and it will be quite interesting to see if he can prove in training camp that he is spongeworthy roster spot worthy.
9:17 a.m.> To further that previous note: “Eli looks really good so far. Sorgi too. Bomar, not so much.”
9:28 a.m.> “Ramses looks good” was a three word update from Benton that should make a ton of mouths drool. Right after he sent that in, Eli and Barden hooked up on a deep one. Eli also made a great play-action pass, only a play or two after the defense totally swallowed up a running play.
9:30 a.m.> Speaking of the defense, Mathias Kiwanuka was “standing up…interesting.” In fact, “Kiwi stood the entire time he was in.” We heard in mini-camp that Osi was doing some standing and roaming to disguise the pass rush, so perhaps it will be an important tool in Fewell’s arsenal.
9:36 a.m.> It’s not a good look for a safety (Sha’Reff Rashad) when he gets his “ankles broken” by a backup fullback (Jerome Johnson).
9:37 a.m.> “I’ve yet to see a shotgun draw…so that’s a plus.”
9:38 a.m.> Eli continues his good morning, hitting Manningham deep over the middle.
9:38 a.m.> “Giants D stuffing any and all outside runs.”
9:39 a.m.> “Bradshaw with a huge run. Hit a hole and was finally gone.”
9:40 a.m.> Ok, Kiwanuka’s back with his hand on the ground. And here’s Corey Webster taking back a pick-6.
9:41 a.m.> “Tim Brown with a huge grab. Kid is showing some serious skills.” Maybe this does have a shot at the roster after all, although the practice squad still seems more likely given that his skillset so closely resembles Moss’.
9:42 a.m.> Rashad redeems himself from the ankle breaking by picking off a crappy pass from Bomar.”Threw into a heavy crowd. Horrible decision.”
9:42 a.m.> Tim Brown and Aaron Ross returning punts.
9:45 a.m.> Man crush alert!! Man crush alert!! G101′s Dan Benton has fallen hard for young, speedy WR Tim Brown. “This kid Brown is valuable. Quick cuts. Impressive.” Not more than a minute later: “Brown with a punt return TD. Holy ***. Serious. Kid is niccee.” On the other end of the height spectrum, Ramses Barden again with a nice grab, this time turning upfield well after the catch.
9:47 a.m.> Bad Eli shows up, overthrowing Manningham. “Webster with good coverage,” though. Seems like a lot of Eli to Manningham today (with Hakeem Nicks and Steve Smith taking the day off…).
9:50 a.m.> Sorgi looking pretty good today, this time hitting Cruz over Bruce Johnson. “Great pass.” Maybe this Sorgi guy has some skills after all…
9:53 a.m.> While Mario Manningham continues to make plays (this time in traffic), Courtney Brown continues to to cede the 5th CB spot to guys like D.J. Johnson and Seth Williams. “PI on #37. Bad Play. Was burnt deep.”
9:57 a.m.> With such great reports on the health of Ahmad Bradshaw and Andre Brown, Brandon Jacobs has been flying under the radar this camp. He does appear healthy, and “appears to be hitting all the holes.” He also had a nice run to the outside a moment ago.
Stay tuned!

Is anyone else having problems getting to the site? It’s saying that the page can’t be found for me at times.
Nope…
Yes, initially had problems. Error message on web site page not found. Clicked on again and was able to access.
While I am logged in , just want to send out a Thank You to the folks running and writing on this website. I find it very informative.
Dan, can you give a report on special teams? Specifically, special team coverage units.? Is Quinn visible and doing anything out there?
Kozak– glad to have you logged in and reading. Don’t be a stranger to the comments section.
I sent Danny Boy your questions…see if he can get a look at some ST drills…
Stick around buddy. You’re wanted here.
Well you’re here now Kujo so stop crying…
GUYS, keep refreshing this page for live updates from Dan every couple o minutes. Except KD, god forbid I should suggest he refresh the page…
Damn. You woke up with a bug in your **** this morning! It’s okay…I know you’re still a ****, though.
What, you think I’m Bryan Kehl or something?
Nah. You’re a lazy schmuck who doesn’t like to practice. So, that’d make you Hakeem Nicks.
bout time we work on the screen!
Dan, I’m very interested in your take on Andre Brown. We’ve heard all these good things about his recovery, but the Irish cynicism in me needs to see it myself. Short of hopping on a plane to Albany, I’ll accept the next best thing–an equally-cynical perspective on him from Dan Benton!
Hey Kozack–Dan says that Quinn is out there, and although he’s not the loudest guy in the world (aka doesn’t scream his head off like Fewell), he is “very active in coaching”
They opened up todays practice with a ton of ST coverage drills…
SimonGC : Thanks, I will comment more and have occassionally commented in the past. I am on the site every day for the last two or three years. Grew up in upstate NY, watching our beloved GIANTS with my father and brother
I am stuck here in Philly now, and can provide insight into the organization i loath the most of all NFC East opponents. Big mistake trading McNabb to the skins.
I really would like to see our ST coverage units improve, specifically a gunner like we had in the Parcells era. I was disappointed we did not pick up that ST coordinated when he was let go by Buffalo over the past winter I believe. Unfortunately he was picked up by the eagirls.
Kozack– your sentiments on the ST are shared by one of our resident elders around here… Glad to have you.
lol i HATE the eagles. i too live close to philly and listenin to their sports talk stations is sickening! you would think they already won several SBs with kolb! they talk bout McNabb like hes a bum. granted he stuck his foot in his mouth several times but he was a very good QB for them and won a lot of games for them. he i dont think is a big game qb but thats the coaches fault for puttin the ball in his hands. shoulda got a rb to grind out the tough yards in the big games.
Try living in Dallas…I’m telling you they have the dumbest fan base in the East!!! They actually believe Miles Austin is better than Andre Johnson!!! WTF!!! I can’t bear to listen to sports radio cuz I always end up calling and telling them how dumb they are for the non sense they speak!!!
g_fense469, agree 100%! If you’re in the area, the best place to hang with other Giants fans is at Cape Buffalo in Addison off the tollway. Holla at me if you’re going for any games.
i am really interested in brown. he can be a real nice piece. question… who are they running the screens with? we havent ran good consistant screens since barber was our back
Kujo Dan’s keeping an eye on Brown for you. All he’s seen of him so far is ST drills, but he said Brown looked healthy and made some nice cuts, but warns that it was a casual drill…(as opposed to those black tie drills I guess)
