As The Giants get set to hold open mini camp for the first time ever, you can count on Giants 101 to be on the scene.
Starting at approximately 3 P.M. Giants 101 will be your source for live updates. But first, lets get the pre- practice notes out of the way.
- Kenny Phillips was seen stretching with the team and will likely be doing his usual individual routine today, but that is definitely something worth watching today.
- Everyone was seen in attendance, and only Jay Alford started the day on the exercise bike.
- Phillip Dillard started off with the second team, as did Osi Umenyiora. Gerris Wilkinson started with the third team.
- The open session begins at exactly 2:50.
More from Giants 101
Rich O’ Callaghan wonders if Ramses Barden will ever see the field, while comparing his prospective career to that of Vincent Jackson.
I expect Barden’s career to closely mirror that of San Diego’s Vincent Jackson. Like Barden, Jackson is a big (6?5 230) receiver from a non-division one school (Northern Colorado). As a rookie Jackson just caught three balls for 59 yards. Jackson’s numbers jumped in each of his next four seasons, and now he is a perrenial Pro Bowl receiver who has had over 1000 receiving yards in each of the last two years.
G101′s own kujo examines what exactly “Giants Football” is and how good The Giants can be in 2010.
The potential of this defense, and the team as a whole, is immense. But this team has never thrived as front-runners; rather, we’ve always relished being underdogs, embracing the identity of the rough, rugged and downtrodden. And we would do well to look towards the lineage of what Giants football has meant in the past while search for what this team needs to be in the future. If they can be physical, if they can be impositional, and if they can be dominant, they’re sure to find themselves living up to the expectations of Giants nation and will replicate the successes of yesteryear.
Kyle Langan thinks that Ahmad Bradshaw is the key to offensive success in 2010.
IF Bradshaw is healthy in 2010, The Giants offense will soar to even greater heights. It has been a number of years since The Giants had a back who could take it the distance on any given play. Bradshaw has incredible balance and elusiveness to go along with his speed, and this makes him dangerous. If injuries do not hamper him, he is a lock to have 1,100 yards in my mind.
G101 is holding a tailgate meetup don’t forget to pick a day!
Keep it here at Giants 101 for live updates all day.
MINI CAMP UPDATES:
The following are a few highlights thus far from New York Giants mini-camp today, courtesy of our on-site reporter, Kyle Langan:
- Jonathan Goff was with the first team, while Phillip Dillard worked with the second.
- Play of the day (so far) goes to Travis Beckum who had a stellar catch off a deep post route.
- Both Eli Manning and Jim Sorgi were both on-target, darting passes into the hands of receivers, Mario Manningham and Sinorice Moss.
Stay tuned for more!

Anyone you guys want me to keep an eye on?
re-post from end of last thread….
Based strictly upon memory, so perhaps not to be relied upon, I believe I heard that Barden’s 40-time was about a tenth of a second slower than Plax’s when he was at the Combine. That’s enough to matter, but you have to remember that Plax is a complete physical freak. You can’t replace him. He’s simply more physically gifted than anyone his size has a right to be. But Barden could make up that gap with savvy and a work ethic. He’s also apparently far brighter and more responsible than the recently-departed Mr. Burress.
We’re not talking about a guy who will be one of our front-line receivers, at least for now. The question is whether he can get on the field, and if he does whether he should be able to make plays. I believe the answer to both questions is “yes”. I continue to say that the guy to compare Barden to is not really Burress, because frankly he’s almost incomparable, but Harold Carmichael, who had a great career with the Eagles and wasn’t, I believe, as fast as Barden.
Kyle,
Keep an eye on middle linebacker – I was just reading an article on ESPN.com which said Goff is quiet and not a vocal leader, while Dillard is a darkhorse, because he shows great leadership.
Also, Guy Whimper. All of these snaps he is getting with the first team (according to reports) still surprises me a bit.
And of course, Barden, and his one handed falling out of bounds receptions.
Im not there yet, just scrounging for beat writer updates, but apparently Dillard started with the second team and Wilk with the 3rd. Looks like he is finally gonna get cut. He was workin with the 2nd and first teams in the beginning of all this, now 3rd team. Sucks to be him.
Giants 101 stepping up its game again! Big time, boys. Big time.
I like Dillard a lot
Kyle, keep a close eye on Whimper at LG and all three MLBs.
Aother guy with whom I am intrigued is Rashad. And you should watch him vis-a-vis Michael Johnson because they may be fighting for a spot on the roster.
Lastly, the battle for the #5 cornerback position is worth closely observing.
Then there’s the obvious stuff: How is Phillips running? How does Brown look and is it possible he could really come back? Is Gartrell Johnson ready to step up? Do Beckum and Barden look comfortable? Is Sintim looking as dominating as Reese expects him to be?
This is the article I read from ESPNNY –

Sounds like Terrell Thomas inadvertently made Goff sound like a bad leader. He just meant to bust his chops though.
The player I want to hear about it Andre Brown. I wanna know what this guy is doin’ out there that is giving everyone so much hope. His injury and the plight associated with it has been well-documented here and elsewhere. Yet, despite an overwhelming body of evidence to the contrary, Brown seems to be igniting passions out there. I want confirmation from someone I trust of this.
Dan,
Thanks for posting that article yesterday. I appreciate the opportunity.
No problem, man. It was a very good article.
Apparently Jeff Feagles is there working with the punters. I love it.
That is crazy.
I assume “working with” means coaching them as opposed to trying to keep a job, right?
Yup. Garafalo, Vacchiano and others all say he’s helping them out.
Can’t we just fire Tom Quinn and Hire Feagles??? I mean he can’t be any worse than that guy!
Im interested in seeing what Tracy brings to the table too. We don’t hear anything about him, and as a mid-late round pick, there probably aren’t any expectations for him as of now, but how does he look? I am imagining him as an Osi type, no one has any idea what this kid can do, and once he is given the shot, i hope he makes some progress. Well i don’t know anything about him so its all just wishful thinking, as we can see Barden got 0 shot last year, but then again, it was our WRs that we our strongest position. Maybe LB will turn out that way this year.
Good point about Tracy. Even if he’s just a thumper on ST, he’d be an improvement there.
Absolutely he’s coaching, he retired.
