Making a quick selection with the 46th pick in the NFL Draft, the NY Giants have selected Linval Joseph, DT, East Carolina.
While Giants fans may disapprove of another DT named Joseph, the Giants were particularly weak up the middle last year and needed to some fresh blood in the middle of the D-line. By picking two defensive linemen in the first two rounds, the Giants have clearly acknowledged both their weaknesses along the DL and the value of building franchises from the trenches out.
Ralph Vacchiano indicates over on the Blue Screen that Rocky Bernard may not get cut Monday morning, but he’ll have to prove himself in training camp if he’s to make the opening day roster.
Reese quotes from Vacchiano’s Twitter feed:
“He’s a powerful point of attack player. He doesn’t get pushed back from the line of scrimmage.”
“(Joseph) is a big anchor. He’s a human post. He’ll give our LBs a chance to run to the ball.”
Unless he starts dealing, Jerry Reese has one more pick today. Will he continue fortifying the trenches with an offensive lineman? Will he finally find an MLB he likes? Will he simply grab the best player available? Stay tuned…

Damn it! We took another DT named Joseph…okay let me leave for a minute and stick my finger down my throat…
I hate this draft so far.
Excellent pick. Linval Joseph is exactly what we needed.
Props to Samard for bringing him up months ago.
Agreed very good pick wanted Houston but he was gone so Joseph was good even tho I hate the name
Great pick!
Yeah I like the pick a lot.
Who is this charachter???
Is he half as good as the RB Tennessee picked out of E Carolina a couple years ago? I doubt he’s nearly as fast…
He did beat “freak” JPP’s time in the shuttle drill…
If we dont take Butler or Spikes in the third round I’m done watching this draft.
I naileded that pick in my 5 rd. mock…lol
Good pick.
As long as we pick Chaney/Butler or Spikes in the 3rd this is a good draft.
Like this pick here, Joseph is a monster inside, can be very disruptive against the run, ton of physical tools. Needs coaching but ton of upside.
