Loading ...In a somewhat surprising selection, the New York Giants have chosen Defensive End Jason Pierre-Paul, aka JPP, with the 15th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.
The Giants obviously saw something they really liked in JPP, as highly rated DE Derrick Morgan was also on the board. JPP is regarded as a freakish athlete, but raw and in need of some coaching.
Reese speaks: According to Ralph Vacchiano’s tweets, Jerry Reese says that there are absolutely no plans to trade Osi Umenyiora. That apparently didn’t stop teams from calling. Or Terrell Thomas from tweeting that he thought Osi was a goner.
Vacchiano says Reese called JPP “uncommon,” and again used the word “freakish” in describing his “athletic skills.”
Garafolo chimes in with a couple great quotes from Reese:
“We think this guy has the biggest upside of anybody in the draft,” Reese said. “The sky is the limit.”
“Perry Fewell’s got a big smile on his face down there,” Reese said, referring to the team’s new defensive coordinator.
Quick Analysis: This is going to disappoint more than a few Giants fans, as this team seemed to have more pressing needs than adding another defensive end. But with McClain gone, Pierre-Paul appears to have been the backup plan (CJ Spiller may or may not have been a target). Reese’s frank denial won’t end the Osi Umenyiora trade speculation, but JPP is going to have to prove himself before we hand him Osi’s job.
