Giants News & Notes 4.19.10

With the NFL Draft only a few days away, we at Giants 101 have been busy gearing up. We have significant amount of material planned for you readers, and I believe you’ll all be pleasantly surprised with the constant coverage we’ll be offering you over a three-day span.

To enhance your experience, I suggest that each of you become a fan of ours on Facebook and also that you follow us on Twitter.

I will be handling those two pages during the NFL Draft and will be offering fresh material there that won’t be available here (initially). But that doesn’t mean you should shy away from G101, as Sean, Haz, Roc and Simon will all be doing work here, offering fresh material that won’t be available there.

In other words, we’ll be covering the draft from every single angle.

Osi Umenyiora trade rumors are heating up.

Although he’s unable to confirm the reports, Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger reports that recent trade rumors surround the former Pro Bowl defensive end may hold some water. However, and strictly in my own opinion, anything that was initially reported by ESPN‘s Chris Mortenson should be thrown right out the window…and I don’t think I need to tell you why.

Giants not sold on McClain or Weatherspoon?

As sort of a side-note, Garafolo also addressed some rumors about the Giants and their potential interest(s) in linebackers Rolando McClain and Sean Weatherspoon.

Apparently, the Giants have little-to-no interest in Weatherspoon with mixed/limited interest in McClain.

I stand by my earlier prediction: Big Blue will not take a linebacker with their first pick.

Several Giants change their jersey number.

  • Michael Boley is now #59
  • Gerris Wilkinson is now #58
  • Clint Sintin is now #52
  • Deon Grant is #34
  • Jy Bond is #2

Why couldn’t Bond wear #7? Good thing I didn’t order my Sintim jersey last year…

  2. Drew Rigsbeearigsbee says:

Damn…I was in the studio all day with a dead phone…I come back and the Eagles have snaked Ernie Sims? Pissin’ me off!

  3. According to ESPN’s Matt Mosley the Giants are not going to take C.J. Spiller with the #15 pick.

Also he says Jerry Reese likes Earl Thomas a lot.

  4. Grateful Giants says:

So basically we have been given a list of who were not going to draft at 15…and that includes basically everyone, I wonder if they are telling us that its cause we will not BE at 15 when we pick?

  5. Abbott Stillmanfanfor55years says:

Beat reporters, ESPN “experts”, whatever. It is madness to trust anything anyone reports this week. Reese isn’t allowing any good information to seep out to anyone. And anything that does “leak” is almost certainly “disinformation”.

It’s guess along with Jerry time, but everyone should remember that no one except Reese himself, Coughlin, and a small handful of others, has any idea what he’s really thinking. And even he probably doesn’t yet know what he’ll do. It will depend upon circumstances, who is available to him, what the price or benefit would be to move up or down if that’s possible, and what trades get offered on Thursday and Friday as teams decide to get rid of some players currently on their rosters.

It’s going to be a wild ride. We should all enjoy it instead of driving ourselves mad over the uncertainty.

sintim was 51 in college but thats deossi. i like 52 on sintim. new season new additude new number..i like it. why wilk change his number, he should be cut after a inj in camp. so no lb in the 1st huh….im already pissed! if we draft a S in the 1st its safe to say phillips career is all but over

anyway…i love this time of season though.lol

I don’t think anyone has any idea of what Reese will do with the 15th pick. If we draft Earl Thomas, that definitely means bad news for KP.

I hope Garafolo is right that the Giants aren’t interested in Spoon because like I’ve said multiple times, Fewell has said he’s playing an aggressive, attacking-style defense which sounds nothing like a Tampa-2. In that type of defense, Spoon would seriously struggle as a MLB as he would get caught in the wash. He’s best in space and drafting him to replace our best LB from last year, Boley, in the first round just doesn’t warrant enough of an upgrade for that high of a draft pick IMO.

While I hope he’s right about Spoon, I hope he’s wrong about McClain because of the 3 players I’d want at 15 – Haden, Spiller, McClain – I think McClain is the only one with a legitimate shot of falling that far.

    Repost:

I’m not sure if I’d trade up for anyone in this draft. Obviously, I’d have to know the specifics of the trade in order to make a real decision on that and of course, I won’t know the details until after it happens. I love what CJ Spiller brings to the game. I love his skillset and homerun ability and think he could really improve this team. However, I still have complete confidence in BJ and Bradshaw. Yes, we could use another dimension back there but I’d be content with someone like Joe McKnight in the 3rd or 4th round. Note that I’m not comparing the two, just offering a lower price alternative that will be within our reach. Trust me, if Spiller is there at 15 I’ll beat him in a 40 to the podium but I’m not sure if I’m willing to trade up for him (or anyone else really). Again, it depends on what we’re giving up.

  10. Matthew Kiernankujo says:

I like Joe McKnight….but I’m tellin’ you, if Spiller gets out of the top 10, I’d like to see Reese trade up to get him.
