By Hazem Kiswani

The 2010 NFL draft is just over  a week away, and it is becoming increasingly clear which names will be called in the top ten next Thursday night. The question for teams around the NFL now becomes – which top players on their board can slip into their range? Which players graded as first round picks by some teams, will be overlooked and fall into their laps in round two?

The following big board is based on my grading of this year’s prospects. This is not an estimation of where they will be drafted, but rather my ranking of the top 32 prospects in this year’s draft class.

1. DT Ndamukong Suh – Nebraska

The most dominant defensive tackle prospect to come along in a very long time. Freakish combination of size, strength, and athleticism.

2. S Eric Berry – Tennessee

Dynamic, playmaking safety with rare blend of athleticism and instincts. A force both in pass coverage and in run support. Best safety prospect since Sean Taylor in 2004.

3. DT Gerald McCoy – Oklahoma

Powerful, explosive presence with the ability to wreak havoc on opposing offenses. Intimidating athlete with a motor that never stops.

4. RB C.J. Spiller – Clemson

Phenomenal athlete with incredble blend of speed, burst, agility, and vision. Very special player with the ability to break a game open any time the football is in his hands. Elite return man as well.

5. OT Russell Okung – Oklahoma State

10. OT Anthony Davis – Rutgers

Devastating blocker with fantastic physical tools and athletic ability. More than capable of being a dominant tackle in the NFL. Must commit to the game however, and immaturity is an issue.

11. QB Jimmy Clausen – Notre Dame

Physically gifted quarteback with the skill set to be a very good starter for an NFL team. Comes out of a pro-style system and should be able to adjust to the NFL game rather quickly.

Polshed, all-around blocker who shows a strong understanding of the game and his craft. Well-coached and shows the physical tools needed to be a starter at the next level.

13. OT Trent Williams – Oklahoma

Fantastic athlete who shows top-notch ability both as a run blocker and pass protector. Can be a dominant tackle with coaching and commitment.

14. TE Jermaine Gresham – Oklahoma

Big, athletic tight end who can be an immediate difference-maker for a passing game from the tight end position. Has the size, speed and strength to be a mismatch for opposing defensive backs and linebackers.

Samarz – What made you change your mind and move Earl Thomas up from your 5th overall safety to 3rd and as high as 20th on your big board? Glad to see your starting to drink that koolaid a little more, but just wondering.

If the giants cant get mcclain (which im praying they are cuz my mentality for the past few months is tht he is already on the team) i would take spiller at 15 but if not either of them i would just trade down and pick up extra picks the draft is very deep.. ideally tho i would love to pick up mcclain and then draft alualu in the second round.. then add a running back and some o-line depth… also in this draft i would love to get an explosive kick returner

I think I’ll be most comfortable with the Giants next year if they land McClain in round 1. I’ll be most excited if they land Spiller.

  5. Abbott Stillmanfanfor55years says:

The way I look at it it’s hard to believe that we won’t all be pretty pleased by the time Goodell announces the Giants’ fourth pick. That’s 110 picks into a very talented draft. Usually GMs figure they should be able to get potential starters through the “top 100″ but that group probably goes as deep as 130-145 this year because of all the underclassmen who chose to make themselves eligible.

Since I do not believe Haden (definitely my top pick) or Spiller (pretty close to Haden) will drop, I’ll be rooting for McClain to somehow make it to #15. If I’ve given the impression I don’t like him let me state for the record that I think he will be a tremendous addition to any team. My hesitation about him is strictly in regard to other needs and my feeling that Goff/Wilkinson is not at all a bad combination for the few years that it might take to find another stud to draft at that position.

    But I don’t think he’ll drop either.

I don’t know where Reese will go, but it’s a safe bet he’s going to get a quality player with his first pick. And by the time the fourth one is announced he should have significantly upgraded a number of positions, specifically making his defensive secondary better, his defensive line better, his O-line deeper, and his running backs or linebackers better.
