Giants 101 Giveaway — Domino’s Draft Kit

April 9th, 2010 at 9:16 PM
By Sean Carroll

As mentioned in previous posts, Giants 101 is looking to add new and improved features into our rotation as we get settled in our new digs here. One such feature we will be looking to include more often are contests and giveaways; something that will give everyone a small break from the day-to-day news and a chance to win something.

This time around, we’re focusing on the upcoming draft and the New York Giants goal of becoming the most “new and improved” team they can be with the addition of some young talent. The draft has become a massive part of the NFL “year,” and with the April 22nd draft kickoff around the corner, we want to get one Giants 101 reader ready.

Domino's Logo

To do this, we teamed up with Domino’s Pizza, who has been doing some improving of their own. As you may have seen, Domino’s recently revamped their pizza recipe, with most changes including:

  • Crust – A garlic seasoned crust with parsley baked to a golden brown
  • Sauce – Sweeter, bolder tomato sauce with a medley of herbs and a red pepper kick
  • Cheese – Shredded cheese made with 100% real mozzarella and flavored with just a hint of provolone

The new recipe has been doing quite well with the pizza-consuming public, and as such, we want to help one Giants 101 reader get to try it for his (or her) self by offering a $30 Domino’s gift card to use on draft day (or…well…whenever, really).

You can read more about the new recipe on the official “Pizza Turnaround” site, here: http://www.pizzaturnaround.com.

To enter:

  • To enter to win the $30 Domino’s gift card, simply go to the comments section below this post and answer the following question: “If the New York Giants were a type of pizza, what would they be, and why?
  • As crazy as that may sound, hey, it’s Friday night, so have a little fun with it…size, toppings, style, you name it…whatever you think is the best pizza to define the 2010 New York Giants.

Winning selection:

  • The winner will be selected after the submission deadline, Sunday, April 11, 2010 at midnight (that’s midnight Sunday going into Monday).
  • Benton and I will sift through all the entries, select the top 2-3 and have all the writers vote on their favorite.
  • The final winner will be announced the night of Monday, April 12, 2010 in the evening post.

So have some fun, give some Domino’s pizza a try if you haven’t recently, and we look forward to checking out the entries. And guys, please try to keep it clean…funny is good…but try to keep it clean, eh?

Big Blue BBQ Salsa Pizza (Because it is BIG BLUE!)

Here are the ingredients used for the Big Blue BBQ Salsa Pizza. You may not have the exact salsa or BBQ sauce so use what you have. I am usually not a fan of chicken on pizza, but this one got a high 5 from me. We used the thin crust pizza dough that I made and then topped with the following:

    Garlic Cilantro Salsa
    Shitake Mushrooms
    Shredded Rotisserie Chicken
    Bulls-Eye Smoked Hickory BBQ Sauce
    Mozzarella Cheese
    Stilton Blue Cheese

Spread some salsa on the dough. Add some mushrooms. Add the chicken. Squirt 22 squirts of BBQ sauce on top of the chicken. Or put as much as you want.

Slide pizza either on to the pizza stone or the back of a cookie sheet. Bake for about 5 minutes and then turn the stone halfway around. Bake for another 3 minutes and then add the mozzarella cheese. Bake for another 2-3 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. Remove from oven and let sit for a few minutes and then sprinkle on the blue cheese. Since the pizza is hot the blue cheese will melt a little. Wait a few more minutes then slice and enjoy!

I purposely did not list the quantity of the ingredients as the point I am trying to get across is that you can get very creative in your pizzas. Try different spices, different combos etc. You can make the old standard, **** it up, put a salad on top….. the choices are endless!!

    Plain old Pepperoni.

Old school. Conservative. The pizza your grandfather ate. Basic, simple, and built around a strong commitment to meat (in the trenches). It may be boring, but it works today just like it did back in the day.

Crazy recipes may come and go, but the basic truths of pizza (and football) remain the same.

  5. KD says:

What kind of pizza would the Giants be?

Hopefully a Super Bowl winning pizza with lots of Wisconsin cheese on in (for the Lombardi trophy).

Give me the prize. I want to get someone $30 worth of pizza.

  6. MentalHockey says:

what kind of pizza can win an almost out of money college kid some free food? honestly i gotta agree with jfunk. the Giants, under Coughlin, aren’t anything speciall; like pepperoni. we stick to the basics in order to win games. run the ball and stuff the run. its smashmouth, and old school, football, and it is what we thrive at.

I would say peporoni like some have said but given the job they did lasy season I’d have 2 say peporoni with anchovies. Sounds nasty huh…I didn’t wanna watch them last year cuz they stunk so bad!nasty 2 watch jus like pizza wit pep n anchovies is nasty 2 eat!until they prove diff n draft spoon/mclain lol, that’s wat they’ll be!

  8. Brandon Castelbuonocast58 says:

The giants are half plain half artichoke pizza. The pizzas unbalanced just like their offense. The running game (anchovies) stunk but there passing game is plain and good. The bacckbone of the defense is thin crustb Last year the defense was astrocious and snapped just like the thin crust on the pizza. But this year I expect them to be thick crust and play well.

Hey Dan, Congratulations! Brilliant idea about bringing in Domino’s Pizza. It’s nice to see you leading the way with new ideas and battle plans.

  10. Matthew Kiernankujo says:

The Giants are cold pizza that you eat the morning after a night of drinking–it does its best work when it’s cold and it sucks up the ticking clock like a belly full of Jameson. It’s a simple, straightforward pie; no need to spend extra money on Peppers (the Julius kind) or whatever the hell an Asomugha is! And, while some used to prefer it to our resident plain-jane quarterback, we sure as hell don’t want any crumbled Roethlisberger on it (lest a similarly intoxicated woman fall victim to its lust).

In all, we are a plain pizza–classic, reliable and delicious. And our owner’s neice is a f*** hottie!

Delete this one! Wasn’t done but my cat walked across the laptop and clicked the mouse. Must be a feline thing!
