I’m not a mock draft guy. I enjoy reading them, I enjoy comparing them, I enjoy mocking them. I don’t enjoy making them.
Whether you’re drafting 28th, 6th or 15th, you can’t base your draft plans on preconceptions of who will and won’t be available. If you’re drafting 20th, you need to know who the 20th player on your board is. Instead of doing the mock thing, I like to make lists.
So I decided to make a list of all the players I’d be happily comfortable with as first round picks, hoping against hope that the list would be 15 players long. Although having only fourteen teams in front of the Giants naturally makes it easier than in years past, the proximity to the draft’s elite talent turns up the heat as far as drafting a player who can be a difference maker right away, and for years to come.
Without further ado, here’s the list:
QB’s S. Bradford, J. Clausen; DT’s N. Suh, G. McCoy and D. Williams; OT’s R. Okung, T. Williams, A. Davis, B. Bulaga; S E. Berry; CB J. Haden; RB CJ Spiller; WR D. Bryant; LB R. McClain. (Obviously, the Giants aren’t taking a QB, but chances are high that they both go in the top ten, so we stick them in there)
Ok so that’s only 14…and the New York Giants are on the clock.
Obviously, the draft is the draft and I’d pat myself on the back in shock if those were the first fourteen picks. Hopefully, at least one player not on the above list goes before us, pushing one of those players to us. I wouldn’t hesitate to take McClain, Bulaga, Haden or Spiller. Dez Bryant might be a trickier play.
Worst case scenario is that I am right about the above list…but that’s precisely the scenario that this exercise is aimed at preparing for. If that’s the first fourteen, who do the Giants pick fifteenth?
I’ll let you guys fight it out in the comments section below, but names like Will Sean Weatherspoon, Mike Iupati and Earl Thomas should come up. Are any of those (or other) players good enough to assuage fears that the Giants draft slot is on the precipice of a talent drop-off?
Again, opinions on that are up for discussion. For now, I’m going to go back to wishing that someone in the top 14 takes a chance on Jason Pierre-Paul.

im awake…workin tonight lol
i dont think will weatherspoon is in this draft….sean weatherspoon on the other hand is.lol…. and that my friend is our pick
If those players are off the board, my board looks like this:
1. Sean Weatherspoon – LB
2. Derrick Morgan – DE
3. Kyle Wilson – CB
4. Jared Odrick – DT
5. Maurice Pouncey – G/C
6. Brandon Graham – DE
7. Earl Thomas – S
8. Taylor Mays – S
9. Mike Iupati – G
10. Brian Price – DT
The first 3 are interchangeable. I REALLY like Kyle Wilson…and maybe pro scouts have him rated above Haden. I don’t know if he will be better than Haden…but I know he’s looked damn good.
Honestly, I’m so burnt out on pondering the million different scenarios that could take place…I just wish it was April 22 already!
Maybe=Many…sorry, it’s late…even for us westcoasters.
omg me 2! i try to not look on this site cuz the anticipation is killin me…MAKING ME CRAZY
I like Kyle Wilson too, and if Fewell sticks to the Tampa-2 scheme he is the best corner in this draft for the scheme (best press corner in the class) but still, I would want to trade down.
I actually have him ranked as third corner in the class:
1) Haden 2) Kareem Jackson 3) Wilson 4) McCourty 5) Patrick Robinson
Oh and I take Odrick and Pouncey ahead of him.
YESSS theres ppl online! Im on the a plane right now, wifi in the air amazingggg
Where ya headin
lol im happy people are online as well.lol
In fact; if all of the players you listed are off the board, book me with Kyle Wilson as our pick.

is anyone else with me to send a 2nd and 5th for haynesworth
ri giantsfan, i like spoon but id love for us to get mclain. id like to take a look into haynesworth
dude I think its only us awake haha
haynesworth could be worth the risk I mean, he is a dominate force up the middle. and with him, we could look elsewhere in the 3rd..OL depth maybe
plus, get him away from the skins, worth it
