Have things finally gotten serious in Washington?
I think things have gotten serious in Washington. The stone cold personalities of Mike Shanahan and Bruce Allen have put Dan Snyder in his place (basically telling him that he doesn’t know anything about football and that this is their show to run) and have been instrumental in changing the culture in Washington. Most Bronco fans actually did not like Shanahan because he was like Bill Belichick west. He was very quiet and kept things behind closed doors. That said, during the first part of his tenure in Washington he has been a bit more open.
With some help at the quarterback and offensive line spots, Washington could be closer to contending than most think.
Will defensive coordinator work out for Big Blue?
When Perry Fewell was introduced as the Buffalo Bills interim head coach, his message was one of passion. Fewell assured fans that he and The Buffalo Bills would “play like hell and win.”
In 2009, the Giants didn’t play like hell and certainly didn’t win. They lacked not only heart, but accountability. Fewell is serious about both of those things.
But never mind that, Fewell is a solid defensive coach.
In 2008, Fewell coached The Bills defense that had the best red zone defense in The AFC, and they sported the 14th overall defense.
While this may not be impressive, the red zone is an area which the Giants struggled mightily this past season, as they were dead last in the league in red zone defense. On many occasions, the Giants didn’t even look like they could recognize run or pass.
This starts with coaching. Fewell is a great emotional leader and someone who will demand accountability from his players.
Ultimately I believe Fewell will be able to restore pride to The Giants defense and turn the team into a contender again.
Why is Dallas so quiet?
Dallas has been fairly quiet until they released both Ken Hamlin and Flozell Adams today.
This stems from their confidence in their current team.
I believe that they wear that victory at New Orleans on their sleeve as a badge heading into next season.
An impressive win though it was, Dallas still has many a question to answer.
In the playoffs their offensive line looked flat out bad, as did their pass defense. If you get their front seven blocked up, Dallas knows that their secondary will get eaten alive.
If Dallas can fill holes on the line and in the back seven they may turn themselves into a contender again.
Their only real issue outside of that lies in head coach Wade Phillips, who, despite his .600 career record, seems unable to get it done in a big spot (see: music city miracle).
What will be the fate of Donovan McNabb?
Ultimately I feel that Mcnabb will be dealt and Philadelphia will move on to Kevin Kolb.
I see a resemblance between McNabb and his relationship with his home city and Patrick Ewing and his home city. Knick fans always scoffed because Ewing couldn’t win the big one, but once he departed they realized how valuable all those winning seasons were.
Now of course Philly still has plenty of young talent for Kolb to work with, but in seeing Kolb over the last two years, I don’t believe he has “it”.
To McNabb’s credit, he dealt with the city of Philly very well, which is a task that Kolb must prove he is up for.

Giants 101 is Way ahead of the game:
http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-network-path-to-the-draft/09000d5d8174df15/Inside-the-draft
So is someone else you know lol
Nice write up Kyle! And yes, as usual…G101′ers know their ****.
UI’d really like us to draft Trent Williams. I know you put him on the Washington list but if he falls to us I’d gladly take him over McClain.
****. I am hung the f*** over! Went drink for drink with a buddy of mine from high school. Dude is about a shot and a beer short of full blown liver cancer. Kicked my ****.
I feel ya bro.. I have an epic cottonmouth going on here..
I got crazy til about 3, got home, and had one of my female roommates waiting for me in bed. But lest my fantasy be fufilled, she let me know she was drunk and “wanted to talk.” Or, as my **** meter translated for me, “I’m gonna lay in your bed almost naked and **** to you about my problems, all of which would be solved by a good poundin’ and a hefty dose of shutting my f’n mouth. But none of that is going to be happening for you right now.”
2 and a half hours later, I dragged myself out of bed and headed to work, still drunk and still exhausted. 8 hours from now I’ll be driving down to West Palm (about 2.5 hrs) to spend Easter with the family. Hope I don’t die en route…or en route to being en route!
At least you didnt wake up with a black eye because you attempted a double legged take down on the doorman at the local bar..
That’s not good.
Giants 101, Where Young Guys Come to Talk Football and Compare Hangovers. LOL
Here’s a cure for a hangover: Laetitia Casta. She looks like a girl I dated when I was in my salad days (who, after a year of great times left me for a Brazilian centimillionaire who looked like Keith Hernandez only better…there was no competing with that). Go look her up. You’ll stop hankering after minor leaguers like Reby Sky, Lavin’s wife, and Megan Fox. Anyway, it will sober you up.
Kyle, excellent comparison of McNabb and Ewing. While I think Ewing will be remembered as a much greater player in his sport than McNabb was in his, both were pretty terrific. Neither could bring their teams a championship. And both will be better respected when gone than when on the roster.
One big difference, though. When the Knicks were playing Game 7 against Houston it was John Starks and Reilly’s insistence on sticking with him when he had Rolando Blackmon on the bench (one of the best clutch players in the NBA) that killed them. When the Eagles were in the Super Bowl with a chance to go down and score to win, it was McNabb who vomited up his anxiety and couldn’t get the job done. Unless he wins a ring that’s what he’ll be remembered for, much like Patrick will, unfortunately, be remembered for the finger roll that stayed out against the Pacers. That may not be fair, but that’s the way it is in the cruel world of sports.
Isn’t it nice having a quarterback who, at worst, will always be remembered for that great drive to win the Super Bowl?
Ugh my heart hurts everytime I think about the knicks and that final great point about mcnabb and Ewing I think Ewing was way better in his sport
By contrast… I went out for dinner with my daughter… split a bottle of wine over some excellent pasta… then fell asleep in front of the TV.
This ‘getting old’ bit sucks… hard core.
I f’ing hate Donovan “Happy the Clown” McNabb. Yeah, he has talent… but he’s a low class bum IMHO. All those sideline antics… all the whining. I hope he never gets a SB ring. Next stop… Oakland…. after that… ‘Dancing With the Stars’.
Doesn’t know overtime rules lol
I loved that edition of the Knicks. Surely if not for Jordan, they most likely win 2 titles.
As for Patrick, he fooled us all. We thught 12 pt, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks per game.
What we got was 20 pt. 11 rebounds and 2 blks. But what a wonderful gutty presents he was.
Never a gripe, just effort and inspration. He did’nt get those 5 blks because teams did’nt bother to challange him. But never did anyone think that such a defensive force, would be the guy you would want to take a 20 footer at a critical juncture in a game.
As for Starks and the rest. I could (and did) groan about missed shots, and seemingly wild abandon he displayed. But then I look at the “poster” in MSG and realize, that guy feared no player, and he lived to play defense. He like the other members of that Knick era have my undieing respect. Because, they played hard and played to best of the ability God gave them, and what they eched out by themselves. They were’nt champs of the league. They were champs of the heart. They gave us excitement, hope and dissapointment. But they never gave the impression that they were not trying. THEY NEVER QUIT!
And if Washington does not draft Okung, then they will continue to be doormats. Even though Shannahan will routenly out coach both TC and Wade Phillips. Their defense is going to be very good, God forbid the build their OL and augment the wide outs.
Philly wil be Philly. Kolb is not a bad young passer, but I hope the Giants and others greet him much in the same manner Eli was greeted.
Also, if they somehow manage to get their hands on Weatherspoon, they will be capable of carring the QB through his down times, which will be many. They also need a power back because their weakness remains short yardage and goal line situations. Just not exposed because of the explosive nature of the long passing game the have. By all indications, Kolb is strong armed, and accurate.
The Cow turds are in quite mode. They are looking to carefully tweak what they have, I think they will take May’s if he is around. Even the safety from GT is in line. They will take an OT replace the living personal foul Adams, and maybe sure up the linebacking. They have enough on both sides of the ball to be pre-season favorites for division, and the NFC.
Like it or not folks, they are way better than we are right now. That we beat them twice last year in a small feather in out cap. If they can get out of their own way, look out!
The Giants are at best a question mark. They had promise, but injury and questionable coordination on both sides of the ball are major road blocks. They have the skill position players to get the job done. However the health of the running backs, and offensive line lacking explosion at the point create a iffy situation. On defense frankly the situation is almost a mirror image. Key players either injured or prone to injury. No explosion in the defensive line, and no fear factor imposed by the linebacking.
They need an enforcer in the middle. In fact they need to at least try to take advantage of the bodies they have who are healthy (linebackers) and run a 34 alignment. The dream scenario would be to somehow be able to land a combination of McClain, Weatherspoon or Spikes. Two of the three at least. Then hope to land a run stuffer at the DE position.
The draft is deep enough to do that. But then they have to look at insureace at running back, safety and offensive line (T/G C).
There may not be enough picks to address all the problems or potencial problems.
The bottom line is hope. The Giants will hope to maintain health at corrner back, hope that health was the reason for the failure of the defensive line.
Hope that Goff, Sintim, Khel and Wilkinson are for real. Hope that the left guard and right tackle hold up over the course of the season. Hope that Jacobs, and Bradshaw are healed.
Finally, they hope that a certian defensive end gets over himself and understands that he need to play like the player “HE” thinks he is.
Thats a lot of hope, and not a lot of substance. Stranger things have happened. If they get the required players in the draft, rebound physically, and stay healthy, they are as good as anyone in the division and league at large.
That’s a lot of nonsense, actually. If we get McClain, what need is there for Spikes? And how in the hell are we gonna manage to get McClain AND Spoon? Both will be gone at the end of the first round.
Watch that hangover dude. I said “dream scenario” I dont think there is a way in hell we even get Spoon. much less McClain and Spoon. And if you feel the rest is “nonsense” that is quite alright. Just have another drink, it will be draft day before you know it. LMAO
So you think McClain AND Spoon are gonna go in the Top 14? Who makes up the other 12 picks? And isn’t Spoon considered, by some, to be a reach at #15?
KUJO
Two teams. Denver and Miami. I fear those guy wil land there. I pray one of them fall to the Giants. However, what if JR feels (and he could) that Spiller can not be passed up? A stud third down guy, who can help with getting to the edge in the running game, and return punts. Dave Meggett to the tenth power?
Those are just my feelings Kujo. I no more know what the Giants will do than any other fan. I just know what sounds right to me. But just for a minute, you think about having a starting LB crew of McClain, Goff, Sintim and Weatherspoon….for the next ten years. No better rfantasy than that one….at least for me. A dream? You bet.
Maybe JR unload number two this year and number one next year to get something done. Maybe not.
Giants 101 – where old dudes try and relive their past by lying about tading supermodels and getting dumped for the best defensive 1st baseman ever…
KD
LOL old dudes have to go someplace to rember (If they can remember at all) those alpha dog years.
The twenty and thirty somethings will never beleive us, until they go through some of the same stuff.
AND TRUST ME, THEY WILL!!!!!! LMAO
