When examining the 2009 draft class for The New York Giants, one player always stands out in my mind: Travis Beckum.
The reason Beckum stands out so much is that he plays a position that I did not think The Giants used in their offense, which is H- Back. The H- Back is a receiver who lines up all over the formation and the field. A good example of one is Chris Cooley.
Keeping all of this in mind, I think Beckum can be a fabulous player in The NFL if he is given an opportunity. His presence forces opponents to decide whether to stay in their current package or move to a nickel package to cover him (or use a linebacker or safety). The personnel that The Giants sport give opponents headaches as it is, and if they could add Beckum to the mix it may truly put them over the top.
Now, one area that The Giants have seemingly always struggled in is the red zone. The question here is: Can Coughlin and Gilbride see the gold mine which they are currently sitting on?
Beckum would be a very tough matchup for opponents in that area of the field and he could truly help The Giants become a more balanced team in that area. Why would Jerry Reese spend a draft pick on a player that his coaching staff would never use? I sure hope that it has been made known to the coaching staff that they are to mix it up inside the 20 and get guys like Travis Beckum some snaps.
McClain to visit New York:
According to Ralph V, Rolando McClain will be visiting The Giants this April.
No tags for this post.Rolando McClain, the player most scouts consider the top middle linebacker available in the NFL draft, will make a pre-draft visit to the Giants just 10 days before the draft begins.
McClain, in an interview on Sirius NFL Radio today, said he’ll be in the New York area on April 12 to meet with the Giants, who of course have the 15th overall pick in the April 22 draft. The Alabama linebacker also has scheduled visits with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Atlanta Falcons (who’ll pick 10th and 19th respectively) and he just finished a visit with the Miami Dolphins (who pick 12th).

As the Donovan McNabb derby quietly continues to churn, the folks at TMZ report that McNabb doesn’t want to play for the Raiders.
Um. Who does?
Per the report, a source close to McNabb says he would “refuse the trade.”
Um. He can’t.

Does this guy know anything about the NFL???
While McNabb can’t formally “refuse the trade”, he can tell any potential suitor that he refuses to sign an extension with them. While Al Davis is a raging moron, I doubt he’d be stupid enough to give up a high draft pick to have a QB play for 1 year.

This team may go to a 34 “this” year. There are more parts in place than most of us are either seeing, or willing to see. All its going to take is what most of us think we need. LB, DT and DB. There are plenty of defensive
players in this draft to make that happen, not to mention current players
who will fit the required roles.
I really think a lot of things will shake out during the draft. And if the 34 is not the base defense, it will be played a very high percentage of the time.
Not really saying this with McClain or Spoon in mind because I feel we will never even get a chance to draft either one. Because JR will not give up next years number one to move up. I do hope he retains his 15 pick, and attempts to get two picks in this years second round. That is where he will find the players to finish off upgrading the roster. Between the first and second round, there is a strong chance of finding two defensive starters.
I would love to find Haden waiting a 15. He would solidify the back end.
Then find Spikes and Odric in round two. Haden also offers excellent return capability. And as a bonus, the kid Samarg dug up from Hampton University (LaMarcus Coker) would be excellent value in round five.
That is if he makes it to us. There will be plenty of takers for a kid who ran a live sub 4.3 fourty yard dash, and who can catch the ball out of the backfield. One who witnessed that feat was the 49er head coach.
He (Coker) is going to be at William & Mary’s pro day next week.
I wonder if the Giants will send a representitive to check this kid out?
As for Plax, I would not be suprized to see him show up on the Giants door steps when he is released. he would be cheap, and if he worked out well, I think JR would at least give him a look. He may have lost something however, he is also three years removed from ware and tear. He will be if nothing else completly healed. And please do not think he cant work out in the big house. He will be in pretty good shape at least strength wise. And he will get a chance to work on his cardio. Just my opinion.
Everybody we want won’t be gone at #15. We’re not moving up. Back maybe, but up… no.
